We have now reached the end of May and right across the country the weather just keeps getting nicer and nicer. We have also reached that time in the week when we sit down with Ryan Lockhart to ask him some more questions about current topics in our sport. As you know, Ryan has been in this industry for over twenty years and during that time he’s been a rider, a mechanic, a riding coach, and most recently the Brand Manager over at Matrix Concepts Canada. Ryan knows a lot about a lot of things and he’s always a great guy to talk to. Here are this week’s 3 Q’s with Ryan Lockhart presented by Matrix Concepts Canada.

MXP: Last week we spoke about the opening round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championships and Tyler Medaglia and Burg Biliomee lining up. Well, late last week KTM Canada announced that Cole Thompson has also decided to race Round 1. Cole won’t have his normal mechanic but he will have his full race bike. How do you think Cole will do on Saturday?
RL: It’s nice to see him line up that’s for sure. I think Cole is feeling the pressure to perform in Canada this summer as the last few seasons have been nothing special for him. I’m assuming that this is the motivation behind lining up this weekend. He’s no stranger to success south of the border and I do think the track will suit him, but man I don’t know best case 14th overall, maybe 15th? It’s going to be tough but regardless of where he finishes, I think he’ll take some much-needed outdoor confidence for this.

Sorry for this but I have to put you on the spot. Who wins this weekend at Fox Raceway?
That’s a hard one for sure Palms. I mean both classes are super deep with past moto winners and champions. The Jett is going to be fast in the 250 class, so is his brother as well as Justin Cooper and Jeremy Martin. Martin came close to winning the title last year and for 2021 I think he’s on a better outdoor bike and set-up. Chase Sexton, Eli Tomac, Ken Roczen, Marvin Musquin, and of course Cooper Webb in the 450 class. But honestly, it’s like throwing $100 on Black at 2 am in Vegas.

You’re a working man as well as a family man, but you also still love to ride. Do you have any tips for riders out there who have a lot on their plate and are trying to find time to still enjoy riding?
Well, I think it’s no secret that I’m famous for biting off a little more than I can chew. Sometimes it’s a struggle to make it all work and everyone is a little different depending on their situation. I’m very lucky to have a supportive wife and also my son rides so that helps. But my tip is when you get the chance to ride make it count and get the most out of it as you can. Finding time to ride only gets more difficult as you get older, but if you love riding you just have to make the time.
