Matrix Concepts Canada Presents 3 Q’s With Ryan Lockhart

We have reached the late part of June and right across the country summer is here and everyone is excited. We have also reached that time in the week when we sit down with Ryan Lockhart to ask him some more questions about current topics in our sport. As you know, Ryan has been in this industry for over twenty years and during that time he’s been a rider, a mechanic, a riding coach, and most recently the Brand Manager over at Matrix Concepts Canada. Ryan knows a lot about a lot of things and he’s always a great guy to talk to. Here are this week’s 3 Q’s with Ryan Lockhart presented by Matrix Concepts Canada.

Tyler Medaglia impressed everyone last weekend with his solid results at High Point Raceway!

MXP: Hey Newf! Tyler Medaglia went 21-18 at High Point for 20th overall. What are your thoughts on how Tyler rode and how do you think he’ll do at Southwick in a few weeks?

RL: I thought it was a solid performance. I mean scoring points these days is no Joke. The field in the 450 class is deep and I have to think he’s riding as good as ever. High Point is a challenging track and he definitely held his own. Southwick will be really good for him. He has a lot of experience on that track and has had some success in the past there. He also rides the sand well and fitness isn’t an issue with Tyler so I would predict two strong motos. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him finish inside the Top 15 for sure.

MXP: With the first round being at Walton, who do you see winning the opening motos in 250 and 450 class?

You would be a risky man to bet against Dylan Wright in the 450 class as he is the defending champion. Cole Thompson will also be a threat as he rides well at Walton and I think he’s coming into this Series in great shape. But Dylan will be hard to beat again this summer. Now on the 250 class, who the heck knows what will happen? On paper, you have to go with Marco Cannella or Tanner Ward as they come into 2021 as favourites to win this title. However, young guns like Jacob Piccolo and Ryder McNabb both have a ton of experience at Walton Raceway so I think they’ll be really fast. I honestly don’t have an answer for the 250 class but it will be either Ward, Cannella, Sanayei, Piccolo, or McNabb. Does that narrow it down? (laughs)

MXP: You’re driving out to Ontario this weekend and I would assume that over the years you’ve done this trip many times. What is the funniest or scariest road trip story you have?

Yes, leaving today and heading East. I have done this drive probably 20 plus times in my life but I haven’t done it since 2012. There are a lot more scary stories than funny stories that is for sure. Running out of gas, sleeping in trucks, animals on the road, the list goes on. It’s funny because in my younger years it was no big deal to jump in the truck and go, back then I didn’t have a care in the world. I’d drive for 20 hours straight and see what happens. My anxiety is higher this time around as I now have so many things to worry about. What did I forget? Where to get fuel? Where to pull over to sleep? Wait I have a good idea Palms why don’t you fly out here and drive back with me? Please!
