For almost 5 years I wrote “Betty Blog”, a blog simply about old stories in my life, people of inspiration and moments that have stayed fresh in my memory. As clear today as the day they happened. Over a hundred stories I have told through my Betty Blog. It has been a great outlet for me personally; I have written for most of my life.
That being said, Betty Blog will go on a hiatus. I’m going to take a break from the blog that many people and friends have connected with me through. It simply is time to take a break. I do not have the motivation to write a blog to fill words on a page, to tell stories I have told before or to, as one person said to me near the end of my Betty Blogs, “mail it in”. The sweetness in life is doing the things you want to do, the way you want to do them and at your very best. When that fire dulls, when you are not delivering what you know you can, then it is time to take a bow. Maybe I will write Betty Blog again. For now I thank those who have encouraged me and I take my bow.

Happy New Year
In 2013 within the next 22 weeks I will be writing a series for mxpmag.com. It will be highlighting what a team of industry friends determined to be the top 20 Canadian riders in this great country that will be lining up for a National event in 2013. So far it has been a fascinating project to see how deep the speed is in Canadian motocross today and of course to talk about it. We looked at riders’ results, we talked about speed and used a big helping of gut instinct to determine the top 20 .When we were finished we had a list of 20 men who have won Pro National Championships, podiumed National motos, won Amateur National Championships and Bronze Boot Awards. We also had a list of men who didn’t make the top 20. This list is also impressive, and in the upcoming years many of the riders outside the top 20 list will be some of Canada’s elite riders.

The countdown begins and will lead us to days before the 2013 Monster Energy Motocross Nationals in Nanaimo, BC where speculation meets reality and rubber meets the dirt. For now, it’s what we Canadians love to do: bench race.
