The evolution of Backcountry Photography & Design over the last decade has been inspired by a deep-rooted passion for capturing the thrilling essence of motorsports and the great outdoors. Shelby Mahon, the owner and creative force behind the camera, has spent years documenting powersports events, including the Canadian Snowcross Racing Association (CSRA), X Games Aspen, Canadian Triple Crown Series, and many more. With a distinctive eye for detail and storytelling, Shelby has become a recognized figure in the industry, offering insights and visuals that resonate with athletes, sponsors, and fans. Shelby has also written thousands of articles, social media content pieces and press releases for tourism based businesses, powersports events and various other clients.

Shelby Mahon, the owner and creative force behind the camera, is a retired Pro Women’s snowcross racer who also competed in snowmobile drag races and off-road races, including the La Tuque 24Hr Endurance, TMR Off-Road series, and a national televised Terracross Championship event in Minnesota. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic halted her racing plans. With over 20 years of riding ATVs, SXSs, and snowmobiles both recreationally and competitively, her extensive background in motorsports inspires her work. Shelby has spent years documenting powersports events, including the Canadian Snowcross Racing Association (CSRA), X Games Aspen, Triple Crown Series, Hay Days Grass Drags, Moore-Field-Drags and many more. With a distinctive eye for detail and storytelling, she has become a recognized figure in the industry, offering insights and visuals that resonate with athletes, sponsors, and fans. In addition to her photography work, Shelby has written thousands of articles, social media content pieces, and press releases for tourism-based businesses, powersports events, and various other clients.
“I have been operating my company for over 12 years, and it is amazing to look back and see the progress,” Shelby explains. “We started out as Backcountry Photography and as my focus sharpened on motorsports and powersports, the name evolved into Backcountry Motorsports Media.
