The big red barns of BC are about to come alive again with the sights and sounds of the KTM Canadian Arenacross Championships after the holiday break. Rounds 7 and 8 of the series will take place at Chilliwack’s Heritage Park next Friday and Saturday evening.
Future West caught up with defending champ Spectra Powersports Yamaha’s Brock Hoyer who is currently sitting second overall in series points.
Hi Brock, Happy New Year! It’s been a couple of months since the last round of the KTM Canadian Arenacross Championship. Are you ready for next weekend in Chilliwack?
Happy New Year. Yes I feel ready and rested for the up and coming Arenacross in Chilliwack.
With full on winter in your neck of the woods after a long break from two wheel action how do you get prepared for Arenacross again?
I have been snow biking all break which is some help with being on the bike so I feel ready to rip it up.
You have had to adjust to a new ride this year and made major improvements every time you rode in the first half of the series, is the bike where you want it to be or is there still some more set up to be done?
Yea I had to make some different changes to make the bike good for me. Yamaha, Fox Suspension, T Archer Ltd. and Maskall Collision all stepped up and made all it all happen and the bike is fast.
You are in striking distance of the championship again it would only take a DNF from Spenny to put you back on top of the points. I will ask you the same question as I asked him, will we be seeing a conservative Brock protecting your points or is it going to be all or nothing for the rest of the series?
Yea we’re close in points right now but I’m just going to have to take it race by race.
Spenny is the guy with the points lead at the moment but Nauditt and Abrigo were impressive in Chilliwack and put in some great rides, who do you see as your main competition and threat to the title heading in to the last half of the series?
Spenny is a good rider so well just have to wait and see and have some fun.
A lot of the guys in the series have chosen to run the 250f in both classes. Will you be running a 450f in the open class at any point?
Yea the 250f once you get it set up works awesome. To run a 450 would take more work and set up so it’s just easy to run the one bike. So, no to 450 indoors.
Is there a chance we could see you on a 250 two stroke at anytime?
Yes there has been some talk about racing the two stroke but Yamaha wants me to represent on the 250 four stroke indoors and 450 four stroke outdoors for now.
Our new BC Motocross Championship schedule was just released with 8 rounds across the province, will we see you racing the series and what do you think to the no licence fee concept?
Yes I have seen the new series and I’m going to try to support it as much as I can living up North, but yes no license is nice because moto is already expensive enough.
Who would you like to thank for supporting your AX efforts this year?
Yes sponsors have helped so much this year. Spectra Powersports, Yamaha Canada, Fox Suspension by RMR, T Archer Ltd., Fox gear, Shift, Maskall Collision, MX1canada.com, PTI Graffix, Mitas Tires, Renegade race fuel, Dissent Socks, Atlas Neck Brace, FMF. Apex Tile and Granite, Galfer, Acerbis, Stamped glass, Big O Tires and Vortex.
Thanks for your time and good luck with the rest of the series! See you in Chilliwack!
