Over the years the Sand Del Lee National has provided some of the best racing of the year. Whether it’s the layout, the soil, or the fact that everyone seems to get excited when they travel to our Nation’s Capital, the SDL National is always a memorable one. This year was no exception as we watched riders like Ryder McNabb, Mitchell Harrison, Sebastien Racine, Dylan Wright, and Tyler Medaglia battle hard all day long. All day long the weather was hot and muggy and the conditions really tested the riders as they competed in the sixth round of the Triple Crown Series. In the end, it was Ryder McNabb taking the win in the 250 class while Dylan Wright took his sixth overall win in a row in the 450 class. Now the series continues its march east for the first time in three years as Riverglade Raceway will host Round 7. But before we move on to beautiful New Brunswick let’s go back to SDL and some incredible James Lissimore photos.
Water was everyone’s friend at SDL.Quinn Amyotte rode well at Round 6 but came up just a little short of the podium. It was great to see Julien Benek back after his injury before Round 4.Kaven Benoit made a return to racing on Sunday and won the Pre-Mix class.Chris Blackmer had a mixed day at SDL. After a solid first moto, he tangled with Dylan Wright in Moto 2 and went down hard. Thankfully he’s okay and should be on the line this weekend in Riverglade.Eve Brodeur had a solid day going 2-1 for the overall in the WMX class.Round 6 was another tough day at the office for Marco Cannella.
William Crete celebrated his return to the Triple Crown Series with a solid 7th OA.Daniel Elmore had a decent day at SDL and ended up 8th OA in the 450 class.Max Fillipek has been getting stronger at each round and at SDL he rode well to finish up in 14th OA.Teamwork makes the dreams work.Tyler Gibbs has the reputation of being the hardest rider to pass in the 250 class. On Sunday he went 11-4 for 6th OA in the 250 class and held off several fast riders. Derek Hamm had a rough day at SDL as he suffered a deep laceration in his arm in Moto 2.The past few weekends haven’t been pretty for Mitchell Harrison but he still holds the points lead heading into Round 7.Mexican rider Felix Lopez just keeps plugging away in the 450 class. On Sunday he rode well to finish 5th OA.Shawn Maffenbeier is riding better than we’ve seen him in years. In Moto one he came from last to second and in moto two he led for almost half the moto.Every weekend we’ve seen great battles in the 250 class and Round 6 was no different.Watching Ryder McNabb charge through the pack is truly entertaining.Even a spectacular crash on Sunday couldn’t keep Tyler Medaglia off the podium at Round 6.After dominating the past two rounds Josiah Natzke had trouble cracking the top ten at SDL. Bad starts and some bad luck hampered his results on Sunday.Liam O’Farrell had another solid working mans day at Round 6 as he finished 6th OA in the 450 class. After being one of the most consistent riders in the 250 class defending champion Jacob Piccolo gave up a lot of points on Sunday with his 2-14 moto finish. Thankfully he was okay after his second moto crash as it was a big one.
Your 250 class podium from SDL. Your 450 class podium from SDL. Poor Sebastien Racine! After leading moto 2 for 25 minutes he was one corner away from his first national moto win when he hit a downed rider and crashed.Sunday was family day in the GDR Honda paddock as Derek Schuster had both of his cool kids there. The race for the first turn is always an exciting one!
The KTM boys have been at the front of most of the starts in the 250 class this season.
Once again Kevin Tyler and his MX101 crew put on one heck of a weekend of racing.Tanner Ward rode well on Sunday but struggled with his starts in the 450 class.14 motos started and 14 motos ending like this so far for Dylan Wright.
