Product Of The Week Presented By iKoniK Insurance- Foot Orthotics

These days, there are so many safety products that we have to choose from that, as a rider, it really gives you a feeling of comfort. Whether it’s neck braces, a high-quality helmet, a chest and back protector, the list goes on and on. However, one product that more and more riders are experimenting with is foot orthotics, which can now be custom-made and placed inside your MX boot. Dean Woodcock is a former Ontario racer who now specializes in orthotics at the Orthopaedic Sports Institute in Collingwood, Ontario. Dean will also be working with the MX101 Yamaha Team in 2026, as several of their amateur riders will be using Dean’s custom-designed orthotics in their boots. Below are seven key points on how you could benefit from foot orthotics both in motocross, and in your everyday life. For more information, please contact Dean at deanmwoodcock@gmail.com.

  1. The objective of this MX foot orthotic is to enhance the support and alignment of the foot and ankle.
  2. With current test riders I am working to improve the riders position on the bike transitioning from seating to standing.
  3. The key to this design is to align the ankles to help the rider grip the seat easier when standing . By doing this, I am also relaxing the lower body to reduce stress and fatigue to the feet/ ankles and knees .
  4. The orthotics have also been used by test riders who have had foot injuries, Achilles tendon injuries, general foot pain and knee pain.
  5. So far the riders with previous injuries have experienced less pain and fatigue while riding/racing.
  6. Another feature of this orthotic design is to lock the foot into the boot better for a secure feel and less movement in the boot which means quicker movement from sitting to standing.
  7. All orthotics are custom made by means of a plaster cast and made on-site orthopaedic lab .
  • all products are hand made from raw materials.
