Flashback Friday: Greatest Atlanta Supercross Main Events

Over the years we’ve seen the city of Atlanta provide some incredible Supercross action. We’ve also watch the Monster Energy Supercross Series take place in three different venues in Atlanta with old Fulton County Stadium, The Georgia Dome, and now the new Mercedes Benz Stadium. To celebrate this historic race here are two of the best Atlanta SX main events ever in our opinion. First up is the 1990 Atlanta SX, which even to this day stands out as one of the best races ever in our sport. It was not only Jeff Ward’s final SX win, but we also got another glimpse of the speed of then 17 year old Damon Bradshaw, as well as a great comeback ride from Rick Johnson. Some industry people feel that the 1989 Atlanta SX was even better, but we feel the race in 1990 was perhaps the best SX ever. Then we have the 2011 Atlanta SX where James Stewart and Chad Reed battle for the entire main event. At the time there was certainly no love lost between these two and they prove it during the closing laps. It was an entertaining race and in the end Ryan Villopoto sneaks by for the win. Atlanta has definitely been a great host over the years for SX and hopefully we’ll see another great race tomorrow evening.
