This past weekend, the gate dropped on the opening rounds of the 2025 GA Checkpoint Yamaha West Coast AX Series in Chilliwack, BC. With over 300 entries in the Amateur classes, as well as a top-notch pro line-up, there was great racing in all of the classes. The fastest rider of the weekend was privateer Kawasaki rider Julien Benek, who is currently on the comeback trail after an injury-plagued season. The defending 2024 AX Champion, Tyler Gibbs, also had a solid opening weekend and sits second overall in the points standings after two rounds. Other than the second main event on Friday where he led much of the race, Quinn did not get great starts this weekend. Julien Benek was the rider to beat this past weekend in Chilliwack!Visiting American Bryton Carroll showed some great speed, especially on night two, but a big crash cost him a main event win. We’ll see if the pro riders are all still friends after this weekend. There weren’t a lot of battles in the pro class this weekend, but at times the riders got real close. Dylan Rempel rain into bike trouble during practice on Saturday, and then had to race a 450 for the first time ever. The track inside Heritage Park Arena was fast and technical for the opening weekend of racing. The boys were ready to battle at the 2025 West Coast AX Series opener. Liam Dodds was fast on the weekend, especially in the whoop section. Vet 30 rider Brock Hoyer is still very fast indoors and his lap times weren’t far off the pro riders. The Junior and Schoolboy 2 classes were had full gates and some great battles. The big man, Colin Jurin, was only there for Friday night, but he said he was coming back for this weekend. At the West Coast AX Series every class and bike size is represented. Quinn looked good on his new Priority MX Thor GASGAS machine. Another top rider making his new team debut was GDR Honda rider Dylan Rempel. The pro class blasts off the line for one of their main events in Chilliwack. The West Coast AX Series will be Braxton Zeirner’s final race on a KTM before moving over to the GDR Team. Ryan Lockhart and Kyle Beaton have done a great job with the 2025 West Coast AX Series.
