The race roster just keeps filling up. We’ve just passed the first weekend in October and there is lots of racing still going on. My weekly ritual starts by having a quick look over all the MX websites from coast to coast and check out the US program to see what’s also going on south of the border. Fall time is perfect riding weather for off-road GNCC racing, which is the only real off-road national series in the US. It’s technically only an east coast series that starts south in March when the north is still in a deep freeze. They take the summer off because it’s just way too hot and usually very dry. Not the best conditions when you have 800 riders ripping through the woods. Dust is dust and we all hate riding in a cloud. Once the summer has come and gone, the series starts up again and usually runs to late October. Lots of Canadian riders compete in this series, and it’s an excellent way to test out your equipment or get in some great racing.

This past weekend, Tyler Medaglia headed down south to Pennsylvania to compete in the Mountain Ridge located in Central Park, Pennsylvania. This event usually draws well over 800 plus riders. Tyler’s local dealer, Freedom Cycle, has been supporting him since he moved to the east coast many years ago. Dealership owner Randy McLeod and his son Kyle try to compete at a few GNCCs when they can. I heard that Tyler has been given a real Husky 350 off-road unit with a big gas tank, hand guards and a skid plate. This is what he needs to compete against the rest of the factory supported guys. Having that new edge would have made Tyler super pumped too. The day started out well with a good start and he was hanging with the faster guys. The weather conditions were a little wet but that doesn’t seem to phase Tyler one bit. Three laps in to the event, Tyler crashed out hard on a rock section and called it the day! It always seems to go that way and I think we can all relate. I am sure Tyler will bounce back at the next round.
Round one of the BC Arenacross series finally happened in Armstrong, BC and it sounds like it was a success. I was happy to see quite a few pro riders showing up for the big pay out. Ross Johnson on his Cycle North Honda looked just as sharp as he did last year.
Denver, Colorado was invaded by the EnduroX series and Mike Brown and the regulars were hard at it again. I really like these events because you never really know who will win until the very last corner. Our part-time Canadian rider, Kris Keefer tries the vet class out for some fun. I think he was quoted as saying, “I am a motocross guy that doesn’t really belong on this track.” At least he gave it a shot.
This coming weekend is Round 2 of the Canadian Arenacross Tour in Sarnia, Ontario. The track looks much bigger than the first round and there’s a new spin, the track is outside under the lights. It’s almost like a mini supercross. I heard Kyle Keast is going to compete. I am pretty sure the last time Kyle raced a SX was at the Toronto supercross. Don’t forget the Red Bull Straight Rhythm on Saturday in California. My money is on James Stewart, but don’t count out the German Ken Roczen if he is healthy. Well that’s it for this week.
