Every year there is always a lot of excitement surrounding the Atlanta Supercross, as it’s date on the schedule always represents the official beginning to the Eastern swing of the series. With it’s patented red Georgia clay, and technical track design, the riders always seem to get tested to the max everytime they visit Peach State. This past weekend was no different as Martin Davalos took the opening round of the 250SX East Series and Ryan Dungey continued his winning ways in the 450Sx class. As he’s been all season long, Frank Hoppen was there and sent us these awesome photos.
Jake Weimer rode well in Atlanta but could managed a distant 17th in the main event.Eli Tomac no doubt came into Atlanta with high hopes as the conditions should’ve suited his hard charging style. However, a few mistakes in the main event pushed him back to 11th place.A few years ago no one ever thought that Malcolm Stewart would have a better shot at winning a title than his big brother James. However, that appears to be the case in 2016.The sand section in Atlanta was deep and treacherous and it claimed more than one rider throughout the night. Unfortunately, in Supercross the main is 20 laps.Marvin Musquin appears to be adapting to the 450SX class with little trouble.While Davi Millsaps rode to a very impressive 4th in Atlanta, Trey Canard struggle with the technical track and finish in 16th.Although James Stewart look about as uncomfortable as we’ve ever seen him in Atlanta, it was great too see him finish his first SX main event in two years.RJ Hampshire sliced and diced his way to a solid 6th in the 250SX main event.Nascar legend Jeff Gordon looks perplexed as Clint Bowyer explains how the start works in SX.Atlanta’s deep ruts didn’t really agree with Jason Anderson’s aggressive style and he struggled to finished in 7th place.Martin Davalos took home the win in the opening round of the 250SX East Series.When you’re great, good things seem to happen. Just when it looked as though Ryan Dungey was going to have to settle for 2nd, his teammate made a mistake and Dungey jumped over him to take his fifth win of the 2016 season.
