Matt Goerke Injury Update

As most of you know by now, Matt Goerke suffered a crash this past weekend while racing a SX in Germany and suffered some pretty serious injuries. After landing front wheel high off a jump, Matt was thrown forward and landed extremely hard on the ground. The result was a badly broken collarbone and fractures to his L2 Vertebrae. Thankfully Matt never lost feeling in any of his extremities and he had surgery to have a rod inserted to stabilize the fractures in his back.

Obviously, it was a scary incident for Matt and being so far away from home has made his situation that much more difficult. If you want to help out there has been a Road 2 Recovery page set up for Matt. Go to www.road2recovery.com to donate and to make sure Matt has everything he needs. To find out how he’s feeling we reached out to Matt via text message and here is what he had to say.

MXP: Hey Matt, sorry to bug you but I hope you’re doing okay. Everyone over here is thinking about you. How are you feeling?

MG: Hey Palms, You’re not bugging me, all I can do is be on my phone. I’m doing okay. Surgery on my back went well. That was the main one. It’s really painful but I was able to stand up today. I get surgery on my collarbone tomorrow, I’m not sure how long I will be here after that though. Hopefully not too long, as of right now I just want to get home.

MXP: Well it’s good to hear that your first surgery went well and you are able to stand up today. It definitely sounds like a very scary situation. Was it a big crash?

MG: They say I was so lucky! I came super close to being very unlucky. It was just a weird jump that it sent me funny and I landed front end high, then it just slingshotted me over the bars. It could’ve been worse for sure. Now it’s time to heal up and get home.

MXP: Well, like I said, we’re all thinking of you. Take care and get home safe!

MG: Thanks, all of the support that I’ve been getting means so much.
