“Once the gate drops, the BS stops!” I saw this on a trailer at Gatorback, Florida in 1991 and always thought it was cool. It could not mean more for Canadian riders than right now as we head to Nanaimo, BC this weekend for the opening round of the 2012 Monster Energy Motocross Nationals. I am off the charts with excitement. This time of year for any fan, which I am, is amazing because it’s all going to be fresh. New riders on new teams, different starting point this year, guaranteed a new champion in MX2, live timing and scoring at every round, media crawl, freestyle, 50cc class on Pro day, plus much more. Sometimes we fear change but this year’s nats are all about change. Come round one, if you haven’t been on the web or read the mags, you will see so many different things throughout the pits this year that you may feel like you’re in another country. LOL We are just six short days away and it’s nervous time for everyone involved. For the riders it’s “Am I ready?”, “Is my bike good?”, “Is my girl hot enough?” Hahah For the parents it’s “I love my boy”, “If he doesn’t win after I spent all this money…….”, “We’re so nervous we may pee our pants at the first gate drop”. For the sponsors: “Well, we have put together a great package so now it’s on the rider”, “If this doesn’t work out we could be flipping burgers by summer’s end”, “What? First round is this weekend? Did I send that guy enough stuff?” So many things going on but it all comes to a start this Saturday at Nanaimo.
CMRC National Poster front and back. We especially like the back!!
Okay, so here is how to stay in touch with all the racing this weekend LIVE. Follow this link:
https://mxpmag.com/live-event-coverage-with-motoradio/
This link will have the live timing and scoring as well as the widget for the live audio call from Brian Koster and I. That’s right; I will be up in the booth with Fabs calling the live race from 8am till the final checkers of the MX1 moto. In between I will be running down to do TV interviews and run the podium. The best part of my summer is every Pro National. I have ten jobs and love every one of them. Braappp!!
Also this weekend for the first time in the sport in Canada will be a media crawl and press conference. The media crawl will be hosted by Brett Lee and I. Basically it will be for all the industry and media to walk through the pits and meet the teams. Most of us all know each other and the team members already but now this will be a formal meet and greet so we are all on the same page heading into Sunday’s action. Then after that we will have a short Press Conference with the top MX1 riders for all to ask questions, meet, and share some eats under the Monster Energy pits; just another addition to kick off the great year.
Now this is the way to promote your team and social ways to keep in tune with them as they travel the country this summer. Great Job Team GDR!!

Thanks to him, MXP stepped up their photos in 2011. 2012 will be the same with names like Clayton Racicot, Dave Pinkman and Marc Landry helping us deliver photos of all the action this summer. Here is the highlight video from Freestone this weekend if you missed it; great job by Team OTSFF Yamaha rider Bobby Kiniry getting 12th again this week, and Honda privateer Cole Thompson riding his first National of the summer and grabbing an impressive 17th in his 450 debut.

Now to share some amazing news that only MXP has the goods on. A week today Chris Pomeroy, Mike McGill and I will be flying into Minnesota, taking a bus to Millville, yes the AMA outdoor track, and riding the all new 2013 Kawasakis. How much fun is this going to be? I would say a 15 out of 10. We will have three bikes to ride, trails, full Kawi rig with Ryan Villopoto, Jake Wiemer, Jeff Emig, the Monster crew and of course getting to cut laps at Millville will no doubt be the best part of it all. Stay tuned to mxpmag.com for some pics, tweets, and a full story in the third issue that comes out the end of June. Thanks to Kawasaki for the invite to this one off event. We are overwhelmed you chose us to be the sole Canadian media invited. We will do our very best to ensure this is a great story. Cheers boys and see ya Monday.
Well there ya have it for this week, tons of info to soak up. Be sure to hit mxpmag.com every day this week for as much info as we can give you leading up to round 1 this Sunday in Nanaimo for the Monster Energy Motocross Nationals. Hope to see the stands full and the beers flowing!!
