Don't Miss

Monday Maniac #37

by Gauldy107

This time of year is always the best for moto. The cooler nights really make the soil at most tracks a dream to ride. The fall colours are starting to take over and you’re not sweating your ass off while pounding some laps. If that damn thing we call school wasn’t in the way it would be sick to have some Nationals late in the year where all the best are still into racing and line up for some sick cash. The cooler temps would make it easier for promoters, and all involved because you’re not so worried about the dust factor. But school is uber important. It’s nice to slow down into fall off the dirt bike and change the scenery a bit and be a normal kid rather than a race kid. I find so many kids being horrible with their personality these days when all they do is focus on racing. Don’t forget about the real world out there; hone your people skills at school. Personality is very important in today’s sports, just being good is not good enough anymore.

Develop this away from the track

The week is a special one for me. It will mark the second trip in my life where I will make the jump across the pond to Newfoundland. I did it once before back in 2003 when I raced Snocross at Marble Mountain in Cornerbrook. It was one crazy trip and I have tons of funny stores from that one, but I’m thinking this weekend when I arrive in St John’s for the Brian House Memorial race, a whole new experience from the island will be jumping all over me. I’m stoked to be a part of this race. Thanks to Rod Snelgrove and his crew for putting this together. Mitch Cooke, Adam Turner and I will be doing a moto school on the Saturday and racing on the Sunday. Of course all of this will happen for me if I can make it through Thursday and Friday on some street they call “George Street.” Apparently people there really know how to have a good time, and most of you know that I don’t shy away from a good time. LOL All in all, it’s for a good cause in support of one of our fallen riders that was part of our family for so long. Brian House passed away n 2005 but his memory lives on through events like this and the award for top maritime rider at Riverglade every year. So if you’re in the area this weekend come by for a visit or attend the school or the race. Should be one hell of a time!!

This will be an amazing weekend celebrating the life of a fallen motocross friend.

So, about 1:30am Saturday morning I get this call from a good bud of mine. He wants to talk shop about some racing and other things that are going on. Now I have been asked not to share all the information but he sure was some excited to tell me that a big sponsor of their team is interested in kicking in more money for 2013 to help the riders race some more Supercross races. Atlanta, Daytona and Toronto were the ones he mentioned. It’s far off but the conversation was so upbeat and positive that it really sounds like it could happen. Plus, this guy is no flake for the most part. How cool would that be to finally have some riders to cheer for at the Toronto SX other than the best the US has to offer? I would be stoked and would think they could win or maybe even qualify for the mains, but I will damn sure be waving my Canadian flag for them if this all goes through. Stay tuned for information on this as we will know more after Montreal as we head into the winter months.

How cool will it be if we have more than just Cole Thompson or Kyle Beaton to cheer for this winter under the Canadian Flag?

The Montreal SX is less than two weeks away. Lots of chatter all over the message boards about SX tracks that are ready to rip for practice. Here is the info if you’re looking:

The Thompson compound is in its final stage of rebuild. It will be open to all Pros on Friday September 14th and be open until mid October. It is $50 a day to ride, also overnight accommodations are available for $25 a night per person. Please note this is an AMA style Supercross that is very technical. Please call Jay Thompson for track conditions 810-689-8177.

Also, looks like Travis Hesketh has built a track at Cale Foster’s place in Picton, ON and the Foster family is going to open it up for private practice for Pros only! Get in touch with Cale at 1-613-391-7006 if you’re interested in riding it. The track will be fully prepped and watered.

Now here is all the information you may need as a fan or racer for Montreal:
