Monday Maniac #5

2012 is really starting to pick up speed for us at MXP. Last week the site was jacked with tons of goodies to watch or read. We are starting to get our first issue of 2012 sorted out that will land at Toronto SX. I’m trying to put together a trip to Florida for some riding, shooting and chilling. In the midst of all this, I’m sitting in my office and it is plus 3 outside. I’m about ready to get the trusty 2012 YZF 450 out and rip up the deep sand of Holland Landing (our usual spring spot to get the first rides in not far from my house). This weather just makes everything look like ass: Wet, muddy, dirty, and my dog’s paws just ruin my floor after playing outside. Not a nice time out there yet. I’m almost certain all us racers want to get out and ride, which looks to be happening sooner than later if it stays like this. I feel weird saying this but I miss -30 and lots of snow. A group of us went snowboarding on Saturday for my B-Day and it was like a frozen pond on most hills; just sheer ice. I’m not that skilled on the board so I struggled big time but only managed to crash about 20 times. LOL My butt and legs are so sore still today. A solid day sharing good times with friends as another year clicks of my time clock. Not too many people would put themselves through something like that as they get older. I guess I like pain and failure more than most. LOL
Yep, I ate a lot of snow. Hahaha This is not me but I did enough of these on Saturday.
So the first Canadian Champion was crowned over the weekend. Brock Hoyer took home 3 of 4 main events on his way to the Canadian AX title. This is his second title in the series and it couldn’t have gone to a nicer guy. Brock Works hard, plays hard and has a great personality for aspiring pros to look up to. Brand new Yamaha pilot Spencer Knowles put a stop to Hoyer’s perfection on the second night as he took home a main event win on his new ride. I would say you can’t really start too much better with a new team than going out and winning the first weekend. Good on ya Spenny. The iconic legend of Ryan “Newf” Lockhart added two runner-up plates in the series to his vast list of accomplishments. Newf rode to four 3rd place finishes and kept Hoyer honest right to the final checkers of the series in the points chase.

Spencer Knowles made Yamaha and Checkpoint look pretty good for hiring him for 2012 by winning a main event the first weekend back on the blue machines. Photo by Clayton Racicot
Ryan Lockhart rode great all weekend long. He will finish second in the series. One hell of a comeback after 3 years off the bike. Photo by Clayton Racicot
There was another AX race this past weekend in Lethbridge, Alberta. The re-birth of one of the most popular races in the winter made its comeback after two years off. I wish I had more news than what I can share right now but in typical Canadian fashion there are no results up on the site. What I do know was that the second night of racing was full of take outs, crashes and good racing. I chatted with Kevin Urquhart, who was brought in by KTM Canada, he went 1-2-2-3 in the four mains. I also caught up with the Allison boys Jared and Parker. “There was a solid crowd Saturday night,” Shared Parker. I rode my 2012 YZ250F and went 4-5-5-6 in the four mains. Jared did pretty well too. He was winning one main and was taken out by a lapper on the last straight before the finish. He went 3-4-9-4.” Thanks a ton for the info Parker. Sounds like a great event and fun had by all. I actually chatted to a photographer out there and he was supposed to report and send pics. I’m glad I didn’t hold my breath on that random dude!!! Oh well.

The 5th round of Monster Energy SX took place in A2 this weekend. The track was cool; the best I thought so far but the racing was pretty dull. The one heat race where JS7 threw it away was pretty good then the second heat where leader Millsaps went down, Jeff Alessi clipped him and went down while in 2nd. Then Brayton and Wiemer came together for the lead and Wiemer went down. That was pretty crazy 25 seconds of racing. Other than that it was a quiet night in the main events. RV2 bounced back with a solid win from start to finish. Stewart rebounded from his heat race crash to chase Reed down for the second tier on the box. Reed, as always, was consistent and grabbed third. The Lites saw Eli Tomac take his third win and a commanding lead in the Lites West championship title chase. The series is back live this weekend on Speed Saturday night at 10:30 from San Diego, which we all know means according to Ron Burgundy” A Whales Vagina” Haha. Classic movie. Very excited to see a live race again.
