Monster Energy Leading Edge Thor Kawasaki’s Matt Goerke Wins Both Motos To Sweep Edmonton

KTM Red Bull Royal Distributing Fox Racing’s Jeremy Medaglia captures first victory of the year in the MX2 class

Edmonton, Alberta (June 24, 2012) – On yet another day where the weather threatened to turn the race into less than ideal conditions, round four of the Monster Energy Motocross Nationals at Castrol Raceway, just outside Edmonton, Alberta provided some of the best racing of the series. The superfast course saw riders racing around the track at highway speeds, being clocked at nearly 120km. Monster Energy Leading Edge Thor Kawasaki’s Matt Goerke continued his dominance of the MX1 class, while Red Bull Royal Distributing Fox Racing KTM rider Jeremy Medaglia secured his first win of the season in the MX2 class.

This season Goerke has been nothing short of amazing, winning all but one moto in the MX1 class. Last weekend, after losing his first moto everyone knew Goerke would come out swinging in Edmonton. Behind Goerke were the usual suspects, Rockstar OTSFF Motovan.com Yamaha’s Bobby Kiniry rode solid to earn another second overall and still sits second in the MX1 points standings.

Also in the mix on Sunday was KTM Red Bull Royal Distributing Fox Racing’s Colton Facciotti, who rode incredible to finish third with 3 – 4 moto scores despite having to race with a badly injured shoulder for the second weekend in a row. Facciotti was challenged by Gopher Dunes Racing Troy Lee Designs Powersport Canada’s Tyler Medaglia who was able to celebrate on podium with a third place finish in moto two.

In the MX2 class it was all cheers for KTM Red Bull Royal Distributing Fox Racing`s Jeremy Medaglia, as the Kemptville, Ontario native put an end to Monster Energy Leading Edge Thor Kawasaki’s Teddy Maier three round win streak. With the rain lightly falling, Medaglia took advantage of a bad start by Maier to race away to victory and his first win of the season. Finishing behind them was Monster Energy Leading Edge Thor Kawasaki’s Kyle Beaton who grabbed the early lead in moto two and looked to be on his way to his first win, unfortunately several late race mistakes would force Beaton to settle for third.

With the four Western rounds now in the history books, the 2012 Monster Energy Motocross Nationals take a three week break and will resume July 14th from Gopher Dunes Raceway in Courtland, Ontario. With five Eastern rounds left in the series, both the MX1 and the MX2 championships are up for grabs and will no doubt not be decided until the final round in Walton, Ontario.

On Saturday, prior the Monster Energy Motocross Nationals, the 2012 Western Women’s National Series hosted their season’s final national, awarding the series championship to Edmonton’s race winner Hailey Larson of Mill Valley California.  Finishing second place on the day and in the series was former 2011 Women’s Champion Denaye Giroux, as Alberta’s Shelby Turner took third place on day and in the series, finalizing the 2012 Western Women’s National Series Podium.
