New Series Means New Beginnings For The MX101 FXR Yamaha Team

Richmond, ON (Aug 31, 2021)

New Series, new beginnings,

The 2021 Triple Crown SX series kicked off this past weekend at Gopher Dunes at their newly created SX track. They added more clay and additional sq footage to create a very nice 6 lane layout that allowed for both amateur and pro racing. Pros would race 2 rounds with 2 mains per night on Friday and Saturday and then the following weekend with the same format at a revamped layout again at Gopher Dunes for 4 rounds of SX action.

With both 450 riders sidelined with injuries, the team would look to the 2 time FXR Premix Champ Westen Wrozyna to pilot the YZF. Weston brings AMA SX experience to the table even though it was on a 250 he would prove that he was up to the challenge. Wearing the #100 would cause quite the storyline….but first the 250 action.

250 representation would come from the familiar #46 of Cannella and #24 of Powell. Friday night would see Cannella display what we have been looking for all year with a 2-1 performance giving him his first pro overall and honour of the coveted RED plates. Powell would miss the A main by .1 of a second but used the unique format of the non-main making 250’s and 450’s to race head to head in a B main and take the overall and some great TV coverage along the way.

450 would be handled by Westen and Jamie (our truck driver who filled in at Walton). Westen would show that he was going to be in the mix as he posted top 5 qualifying times and looked better and better each time on the bike. Friday he would go 9-4 after being cleaned out in the first main while battling for 4th. Jamie would qualify 13th leaving him one place from the A main and in the B main with Powell. He would take 4th in the B main.

Westen stole the show and the storyline as a fill-in that more than delivered. He would prove that the Friday speed was no fluke and continued to get better with a 3-3 night for his first-ever pro podium followed up by a career best 3rd overall and in the premier class to boot. Jamie would too improve making the main and finishing a respectable 14th.
