Fresh off a few months of racing in the USA, Nicky Beatty decided he’d try both classes at Gopher Dunes. Well, he did survive and finished 13th in MX2 and 24th in MX1.With his team headquarters only a few feet away at Gopher Dunes, I’m sure Nathan Bles thought he’d do better. However, bad starts had him playing catch up all day. He finished 9th overall in MX2.We, like almost everyone thought Liam O’Farrell was riding the MX2 class in the East. With alot of laps on the Gopher Dunes track and some great fitness, O’Farrell rode to a very impressive 6th overall in MX1.Blake Savage came into round five with very high expectations, unfortunately a DNF in moto one cost him alot of points. He did come back strong in moto two and finished 10th for 15th overall.Hayden Halstead was one of the many MX2 riders who chose to ride a two stroke at Gopher Dunes. We think he made a great decision as he finished 7th overall. Well done Hayden!After showing signs of some real speed out West, Topher Ignalls put the hammer down at Gopher Dunes and took the overall win in the MX2 class.With Kaven Benoit injured, the KTM Team needed someone to ride the MX2 class. So Andy White and the boys gave a little help to American Jesse Wentland. He rewarded them with a moto win and second overall.Alexandre Morin had a mixed day at Gopher Dunes, after battling for 15th in moto one, the Quebec rider came back strong in moto two to finish 5th. This gave him and very good 10th overall.Twins off the track an on the track, the Allison brothers had a good day at Gopher Dunes with both Jared and Parker finishing in the top ten in the MX2 class.Topher Ignalls was the fastest MX2 rider all day and with points leader Austin Politelli having an off day, Ignalls was able to close the points gap up a little.With very high temperatures at Gopher Dunes, this was a very common sight both with riders and fans alike.
Brett Metcalfe just keeps finding a away to win at each round. At Gopher Dunes he once again got a bad start in moto two and had to charge from behind for the victory.This is what it is all about. Work hard all week and reap the rewards on Sunday.Despite the heat, thousands of fans turned out at Gopher Dunes to watch the riders battle the track and the conditions Mother Nature threw at them.Morgan Burger had a day we’re sure he’d like to forget at Gopher Dunes finishing 17th overall. However, he wasn’t the only rider who had a bad day.Tyler Medaglia got both holeshots in the MX1 class on his way to 3rd overall. In moto two with the effects of heat stroke setting in, Tyler grinded his way to 5th. This is what champions are made of.Unknown sandsmith Mike Sottile had a chance to win both MX1 motos at Gopher Dunes, but a few small mistakes put him back to 5th overall. It was still a very impressive ride for the visiting American.Making his first appearance of 2013 was KTM rider Dusty Klatt. While Sunday didn’t go the way he planned, we’re sure by end of the series, Klatt will find his way to the podium.With Colton Facciotti out for the season KTM has hired Cole Thompson for finish the year for them in the MX1 class. Thompson is very fast an had the second moto in the bag until a huge crash cost him the win. Watch this kid in the remaining four rounds.
