Atlanta, Georgia (USA), 22 February 2015 – Chad Reed claimed his first thrilling victory of the season in round 8 of the 2015 Monster Energy AMA Supercross at the Georgia Dome on Saturday night, riding on Pirelli Scorpion MX32™ front and rear tires. It was a great night overall for Pirelli riders in general in Pirelli’s hometown of Atlanta, Georgia; with Weston Peick (Yamaha), Andrew Short (BTO Sports – KTM) and Joshua Grant (Discount Tire Racing/ TwoTwo Motorsports Kawasaki) also claiming top ten finishes in the Main Event.
Chad Reed put in a dominant performance, leading for all 20 laps to beat out Ryan Dungey, the championship points leader this season. This was Reed’s first victory in Atlanta in 11 years and 44th 450SX victory overall.
As Chad Reed, Discount Tire Racing/ TwoTwo Motorsports Kawasaki team rider and the champion of the round said, “’The start was key tonight and my Pirellis helped get me my first holeshot in a main this year. The track was dry and slick and had a lot of 90 degree turns. I felt really comfortable tonight and felt like I had a good solid advantage in the whoops and on the hard slick stuff. We are looking forward to getting back here next weekend to see if we can do it again.”
Following his round 8 win, Chad Reed sits in seventh place in the overall standings with 110 points, closely behind Eli Tomac (115), Jason Anderson (114) and Cole Seely (111).
With four out of the top 10 riders in this round backed by Pirelli Scorpion MX32™ front and rear tires, this once again highlights the pedigree and unbeatable high performance of these tires in off road moto racing, which have also contributed to 62 International Motocross World Championships wins.
Josh Whitmire, Pirelli Off-Road Racing Manager, NAFTA, said: “We’re excited and honored to be working with a great partner like Discount Tire Racing/ TwoTwo Motorsports Kawasaki, a new team for us this season and rider Chad Reed – who showed he’s a true class act by chalking up his 44th SX win. Chad Reed and his team bring a lot of experience to us in Supercross which is a great asset to us, as it builds on our strong Moto heritage and experience overall, allowing Pirelli to better support the other riders and teams we work with in this series and to improve our products.”
Round nine of the series will be held next weekend at the Atlanta Dome again in Atlanta, Georgia, on February 28. The race will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Two starting at 8pm (EST) and there will also be a live stream of the qualifying practice beginning at 1.50pm (EST) on Supercrosslive.com.
