Race Report From Regina

It was a crazy day in Regina for round 4 of the 2014 Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals to say the least. After a large amount of rain fell on Friday, the track, the pits, actually pretty much everywhere was a complete mess. Even though the teams woke up to bright sunshine on race day, the damage had already been done. The track crew did their absolute best to make the track passable for the riders and the racing began on time.

In the MX2 class it was hometown hero Shawn Maffenbeier who grabbed the early lead and looked like this was going to be his day. However, Jeremy Medaglia had other ideas as he passed Maffenbeier early in the moto and took off. With some riders pulling off and others stuck in the mud, Jeremy Medaglia stayed out of trouble and took the victory over Shawn Maffenbeier and Austin Politelli. MX2 points leader Kaven Benoit suffered a mechanical failure and did not finish the moto.

With the track virtually impassable and heavy rain falling, the MX1 riders blasted off the line for their first moto. Bobby Kiniry took the early lead but it was short lived as he went down and handed the lead over to Colton Facciotti. For most of the moto it looked as though Facciotti was going to take the win but Kiniry fought back and with ten minutes to go in the moto the Yamaha rider was back in the lead. Kiniry then managed to stay up and took the win over Tyler Medaglia and Colton Facciotti.

After a lot of track work and attempts to make it rideable for the second motos, it was decided by the CMRC to cancel the rest of the racing for the day. With the condition of the track this was a very wise decision by the officials. The 2014 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals now take a three week break before resuming on July 12, 2014 at Gopher Dunes Raceway.
