Jeremy Medaglia learning ropes of Arenacross: After rough first night, KTM rider earns podium Saturday

Tuesday October 23, 2012. St-Bruno, QC – The opening round of the KTM Canadian Arenacross Championships in Cloverdale, BC proved to be a great learning experience for young Jeremy Medaglia.

Going into the weekend, the KTM Red Bull Royal Distributing Fox Racing rider had limited experience in the tight confines of arenacross. Even though Medaglia is a Montreal Supercross MX2 winner, that race is bigger and faster, while arenacross is much tighter and more intense. Cloverdale wouldn’t come easy for Medaglia; he suffered bad luck on night one and had to earn it—which he did with two podiums on Saturday. As usual, the feisty rider keeps it dramatic!

“I felt great Friday morning and afternoon,” says Medaglia, who also held a riding school that day. “It was my first ride on the new 2013 250 SX-F and I was ready for a good night of racing. Unfortunately, I signed up late and didn’t get a good gate pick. That forced me wide on the start and there wasn’t much room for all of us. I went down with another rider and wrecked up my bike pretty bad.”

The collision ended Medaglia’s night, as some unique parts broke and weren’t available trackside. It was difficult to travel all that way, only to sit back and watch others race, but the KTM rider had another night and two main events to make up for it.

“Saturday went much better,” he says. “I was more relaxed and knew what to expect. It also helped that I got good starts and avoided trouble. Now I have more experience and look forward to coming back out in November for Chilliwack. A big thanks to the guys at Maple Ridge Motorsports for their help getting me where I needed to go!”

A second-place in the Lites main and third in Open Pro helps salvage Championship points for Medaglia, who hopes to ride the full 12-race series.

Canadian AX action resumes November 2-3 at historic Heritage Park in Chilliwack, BC and Medaglia plans to return, possibly with KTM Factory teammate, Dusty Klatt!
