Lost Chronicles # 7

This week I am acknowledging the facts of a changing, progressive world. I remember a time when just getting a five dollar bill, a Nintendo, and a BMX bike was so unreal. Now it seems everyone has mostly everything they think they need, like large flatscreen TVs, pimped out rides, amazing cellulars, cool grown up toys, enjoy all you can eat sushi, and sport a Tim’s coffee cup from the spare change in an unused ashtray.

With the mega shopping sources like Best Buy, Wal Mart and Winners, we are exposed to multiple competing brands for very attainable prices. Unfortunately, it seems most profits leave the country. We are now seeing a painful pattern for the motocross industry, a large percentage of bikes and product being purchased outside of Canada. Pricing must be adjusted to encourage this self-inflicting problem to change. I feel the world has sold out over and over again, money is less valued, and it seems nothing is unique and core, as you can go into many variety stores and purchase your very own Monster/Fox team hat and pose like you have paid your dues in the sport. There are guys like Jesse James who pull off every challenge for his reality show, except to race an off-road motocross race. Even with training by Jeremy McGrath, J. James is living proof that you can’t short change the time you put into moto. We just need to take advantage of what we have these days, promote healthy living, and support the industry in our country.

What brought this all to my attention was a recent visit with long-time friend Ken Kell of adrenalinsports.ca who is known for his natural healing and acupuncture methods. We always get in some deep conversations about what we live for and how our beliefs in having many exceptional experiences and action adventures is most important.

Ken Kell

Ken is the all-around Action Sport “guru” and my mentor for almost two decades. Featured twice as the Sunshine Boy in the Toronto Sun, multiple stories and documentaries on his unbelievable life experiences from an Alaska base jump attempt gone wrong to rolling a sailboat during a circumnavigation in 60 foot depths, 500 miles out and his involvement in action sports.

We discussed how people like Richard Branson are setting the new trend and have the backing to think big and pave the way to a new, uncertain future, a future that will be expanding in the sky and making space travel a reality. In the near future, 1 in 100,000 will be astronauts. As the Russians already send rich tourists to space, Virgin.com is taking paid reservations for their planned space adventure tours, leading into eventual hotels, tourism and new found discoveries. I feel kind of left out from being limited to the main land earth when the Universe will eventually be more exposed and possible for travel.

For now, we continue to get everything we can out of our beautiful land, and ready to adapt and experience the daily changes.

Here are some local dealers to size up some new gear, get specs on that new dirt bike and everything else you will require for this weekend’s ride.
