New off-road models designed to put bLU cRU riders in the zone and on the podium

June 6, 2018 (Toronto, ON) – Yamaha Motor Canada today unveiled its 2019 YZ off-road competition lineup, including an entirely redesigned YZ250F and significantly-updated YZ85 and YZ450FX models.

The 2019 YZ250F features the world’s first smartphone engine-tuning app on a production 250 motocross bike. An all-new engine, new frame, new bodywork and electric start are all major focal points of the extensive model update.

“After the positive response to the Power Tuner app when it was introduced on the YZ450F last year, it’s only natural to see that technology trickle down to the YZ250F,” said Chris Poirier, national manager of motorsports at Yamaha Motor Canada. “The upgrades to the bike for 2019 are significant, and will only serve to strengthen the performance of our championship-winning 250 model.”

Breaking new ground in the industry yet again, the 2019 YZ250F is the world’s first production 250 cc motocross bike with a wireless smartphone-based engine tuner. The Power Tuner app brings tunability to your iOS or Android device, allowing owners to adjust fuel and ignition mapping based on track conditions. Users can also record race log information, monitor engine run time, track maintenance intervals and share settings with teammates and friends.

The suite of revisions on the 2019 YZ250F also includes an all-new engine design with electric

starting, a new cylinder head, piston, camshaft profile, cylinder geometry, larger-diameter clutch and more. The result is even more midrange and top-end performance from an engine that already boasted class-leading power.

An all-new bilateral-beam frame provides more balanced rigidity, as well as improved cornering ability and traction. Redesigned bodywork and ergonomics provide a lighter and more compact feel with easier rider movement, while class-leading KYB suspension—with updated internals—provides the optimal balance between comfort and race-winning performance. The YZ250F also features a push-button engine map selector, new cooling system and lighter wheels.

Redesigned from the ground up, the new YZ85 has been built to dominate the 85 cc class. Featuring a new engine with the Yamaha Power Valve System (YPVS), new suspension, revised six-speed transmission and adjustable ergonomics, the 2019 YZ85 is ready to win races straight off the dealership floor.

Engine revisions for 2019 include a new cylinder head, new crankcase design, optimized expansion chamber and the addition of the Yamaha Power Valve System, which uses a moving reed valve to optimize performance throughout the rpm range.

Additional changes to the YZ85 include adjustable rider ergonomics, a new swingarm design, upgraded braking and new tires.

For 2019, the reworked YZ450FX cross-country racer adopts all of the latest upgrades found on the YZ450F motocrosser, including the advanced frame, suspension, engine and electronics—most importantly, Yamaha’s exclusive Power Tuner smartphone app—with changes designed specifically for the needs of cross-country/woods competitors.

After a laundry list of significant upgrades in 2018, the YZ450F gets refined for 2019 with optimized suspension settings to further enhance its on-track capability. With highlights including the wireless

Power Tuner app, electric start, launch control, a potent fuel-injected four-stroke engine and a race-ready chassis, the ultimate motocrosser is ready to take you straight from the showroom floor to the podium.

Yamaha Motor Canada also announced the return of the entire YZ lineup for 2019: the two-stroke YZ250, YZ250X and YZ125 models, as well as the four-stroke YZ250FX. Due to its recent launch, the YZ65 is incorporated as a 2018 model with 2019 graphics.

Dual sport models returning unchanged for 2019 are the venerable XT250 and TW200.
