Yamaha Motor Canada Ltd Presents The Wednesday Amateur Profile- Brenner Lammens

yamaha logo - low resEven though Brenner Lammens has just begun his riding career, so far the five-year-old is loving every minute of it. After spending last fall competing in some TVR events, this summer Brenner hopes to enter a few CMRC races as well as the Moto Park Cups. With his newfound love of motocross, Brenner is the subject of this Wednesday’s Yamaha Motor Canada Ltd. Amateur Profile.

MXP: Hey Brenner, how are you? Let’s start by telling us how old you are and where you’re from?

BL: I’m good & excited, I never had an interview before. I am 5-years-old and I live in Langton. In case you don’t know where that is, it’s just five minutes from Gopher Dunes and ten minutes away from Chesterman’s Indoor Track.

That’s a great area of Ontario! How long have you lived there?

I have lived here for 5 years.

A great photo of a kid who just loves motocross.

Can you tell us how long you’ve been riding your dirt bike?

Sure, I’ve been riding in the Beginner class on my PW-50, but I just gave that bike to my sister after my last race and my Dad is putting pink fenders on it for her. I also ride in the 50cc (4-6) class with my KTM.

Saying goodbye to the PW-50 is always a sad time, but now you have suspension so you can hit the big jumps. I know you’re only five so training probably isn’t on the top of your list of things to do, however did you do anything in the off-season that might help you with your racing in 2015?

I was able to keep riding a little so that was cool. I rode all winter at Chesterman‘s Indoor track and I played hockey!

Oh okay, so you’re ready to go for the season. Even though 2014 was your first year of racing, what were some of your highlights?

I didn’t start racing until the end of last year because I wasn’t allowed to race until I turned 5.  But, at my first race ever I won four out of six motos and won the championship for the weekend against a lot of bigger kids that had been racing all year. After that weekend I thought racing was really fun and I wanted to keep doing it.

Then this past winter I competed in the Chestermen’s Indoor Series and I won the championship in my Beginner 50cc class and also finished 2nd overall to Ben Kongmany in the 50cc 4-6 Jr. class.

That’s awesome Brenner, congratulations. Do you have a favourite track yet?

Definitely Gopher Dunes, it’s my home track and I like the big jumps and the sand, and it’s soft if you fall!  My whole family and I go there all the time & we BBQ and ride. That is really fun. Frank (Schuster) always comes to visit on the quad & brings his dog Benny to visit.

The Schusters are great people, for sure. As we look to begin the new season, what are your goals for 2015?

I want to have fun and make lots of new friends. If I can win some races then that would be fun also.

Those sound like some pretty good goals. I know you probably have people telling you things all the time, but can you think of the best piece of advice that you’ve been given so far with regards to your riding?

Probably two things: my Dad always tells me to stand up and my Mom always tells me to have fun!

Brenner flies over a jump at his favourite track, Gopher Dunes.

Sounds like you have pretty smart parents. Do you like music Brenner? What types of music do you like to listen to?

I really like Country music. My sister loves Taylor Swift and the song Shake it Off and I guess I like that sometimes.

Here’s a cool question for you, right before the start of a race, what are you thinking about?

I guess I’m just thinking about getting the holeshot!

Well, those are good thoughts. Off the bike, what is your video game of choice?

I love to play Wii Sports and Hockey, that’s it. I’m not allowed to play video games that much.

Do all your friends at school know that you race dirt bikes.

Yes, all of my friends know and they think it’s really cool.

What is your favourite subject at school?

I love to play at recess (laughs). Oh okay, that’s not a class. Gym class is definitely my favourite. I also like colouring stuff sometimes, but I don’t really like sitting still much.

Brenner was in good hands at last year’s Gopher Dunes National.

What type of things do you like to do when you’re not riding your dirt bike?

I love to play hockey and I love to ride my horse, Garfield.

Wow, you ride horses also, that’s awesome. Well, good luck this season Brenner, who would you like to thank?

I want to thank my Mom & Dad because they buy my dirt bikes, drive me everywhere and they‘re my biggest fans. Also my sister Isla because she thinks I’m awesome, my friends Curtis, Maddox, & Kyle who ride with me on our farm almost every day during the summer, and Frank & Barb Schuster for having Gopher Dunes & helping me out all the time.
