MXP: Hey Newf, you’re headed east this week. What is your plan once you arrive on this side of the country?
RL: Yes, I left first thing Wednesday morning to start logging the miles east. If all goes as planned I want to hit up SDL Sunday for the AMO race. I have to pick Randi and the kids up Sunday night in Ottawa so as long as the drive goes smooth I should be able to make that happen. Once I pick them up we will head to KTM on Sunday night and meet up with JSR Monday morning to say hi. We will be traveling with the Zeitner’s so it will be cool for Braxton as well as my son Meston to go to KTM. After that, we have a campground in Quebec city booked where we will spend the day and night. We move into Deschambault on Tuesday and get some riding in before the ECAN starts. After the ECAN we will head to Gopher Dunes and set up camp for the week before moving into Walton the following week. It’s a full schedule as I have dealer visits and computer work that I have to keep on as well. I’m really looking forward to it though.
MXP: Round 6 was another crazy day of racing in both classes this time. Once again the 250 class delivered with some great action. McNabb was good, Harrison was solid, Racine was fast, and Gibbs had a great second moto, but Piccolo threw away a lot of points.
RL: As I said last week I had a feeling that SDL was going to be a wild one. For whatever reason, this round has produced some of the best battles and some of the biggest drama the Canadian series has seen over the years. Honestly, there were points in the day where I was speechless with everything that was going on in the 250 class.
- Ryder really dug deep and had some luck on his side for once so that made me happy.
- Racine, 20 feet from winning his first pro race and ends in heart break.
- Piccolo seems to making more mistakes than last year which has cost him big and normally I would say he’s out of the running in this championship but McNabb just made up 19 points in 2 rounds
- Harrison is in the best shape out of all of them and is a grinder.
- Gibbs gets great starts and is becoming the hardest guy on the track to pass.
- Quinn Amyotte is getting better and better. He can taste the podium.
- Cannella was off the pace? Thinking about the 450 in 23?
- Natzke was off all day and didn’t have the chance to play spoiler.
- William Crete was a surprise and rode really well.
What more can people want from this 250 class. It’s just wild from start to finish and with only 3 rounds to go I have a feeling there is a ton of excitement left.
MXP: We’re hearing that Christopher Blackmer is okay and will race this weekend in Riverglade, so that’s great news. What are your thoughts on the Wright/Blackmer incident?
RL: I’m glad Chris is okay for sure. It would be a bummer to lose him as he’s been a great addition to the series. As far as the incident goes, my opinion is there are always two sides to every story. I have watched the video like 20 times and there is no question that Dylan got sketchy coming into the right-hander and didn’t make the inside like he wanted to. Now since there were two lines in the corner Blackmer knew Dylan was coming hard down the inside so he went to the outside and didn’t shut off. There is no question in my mind that if Dylan didn’t get bucked and some head shake that the situation wouldn’t even be a situation. Like I said there are two sides but based on the video that’s how I see it. Now since Chris went down hard and was knocked out you’re always going to have the people mad at Dylan as well as people sticking up for Dylan. However, at the end of the day, I’m just happy Chris is going to be good to go and finish the series.
