My Weekend Was…My track walk was…interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many rocks and pieces of asphalt on the track before. But it actually turned out good for practice. I almost thought I should run handguards, but it ended up being good.
My practice was…good. The first two were a little rough. It didn’t seem to flow very well. But it got better later in the day and I ended up third in qualifying, so that was good.
My autograph session was…pretty painless. The fans weren’t too crazy so it makes it a little easier on us when we have a long day.
My dinner was…pretty good. I actually had dinner with the Troy Lee Designs guys like Shane (McElrath) and Troy (Lee). It’s fun hanging out with those guys, so it’s good to relax before the race with familiar faces.
My favorite part of the track was…the start straight. It’s pretty long. We haven’t been going the length of the football fields much recently, so it was pretty cool getting high speed into the first turn.
My heat race was…a bit frustrating. I was on my way to win my heat race, but there was some confusion on the track and I ended up hitting a downed rider, but I went on to a win in the semi.
My moment of the day I would like to forget was…the heat race.
My favorite moment of the day was…racing in a new stadium. It’s always cool to come to a new place. And racing in California again, where I’m from makes for a good day.
