Pirelli Racers Charge to the Finish at Indianapolis Supercross

INDIANAPOLIS April 10, 2016 – The 13th round of the 2016 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, was held Saturday night inside the home of the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. In a city known as the “Racing Capital of the World,” teams and riders could be found decked out in old-school riding gear and graphics as they participated in the championships annual retro night. A challenging track was in store for the rider’s, which consisted of soft-rutty soil and left many of the sports stars opting to run the SCORPION™ MX32™ tires for a performance advantage over the competition.

BTO Sports/WPS/KTM’s Justin Brayton got off to a strong start as he pulled the holeshot in 450SX Heat 1. He set a quick pace at the front of the field, leading several laps before eventually settling into third place and earning a direct transfer to the Main Event.

Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha’s Justin Barcia circulated the opening lap of 450SX Semi 2 in fifth position, but he quickly went to work and began moving towards the front. He charged to third place at the finish and a transfer position to the Main Event.

The Privateer Journey Racing rider of Nick Schmidt logged strong-consistent laps in 450SX Semi 1, claiming the fourth position to qualify for his 12th consecutive Main Event of the season.

A crash earlier in the evening forced Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha’s Weston Peick to lineup for the 450SX LCQ. He started towards the front and passed for the lead early before pulling way to take the win.

As the Eastern Regional 250SX Class returned to action, MAD Racing/Dirt Candy Graphics/Suzuki’s Matt Bisceglia started inside of the top-10 in 250SX Heat 2. The Texan made several passes, which resulted in a fifth-place finish and direct transfer to the Main Event.

As the gate dropped for the 450SX Main Event, the No.10 of Brayton started the opening lap just inside of the top-10. The veteran rider methodically navigated the tricky conditions, eventually finishing a hard-fought eight place. After beginning the race nearly dead last, Barcia battled the entire 20-lap Main Event to finish in 15th.

Peick had an impressive come from behind ride as he passed into the top-10 on Lap 7, however, he would make a mistake just one lap later and lose valuable time as he ended up in 16th. Schmidt rode solid aboard his TPJ Racing machine en route to a 19th-place finish.

In the 250SX Main Event, Bisceglia rounded the first turn towards the tail end of the field and had his work cut out with a pack of riders in front of him. He put his head down and began working his way through traffic, but misfortune struck on Lap 13 when he tangled with another rider and went down. He remounted to cross the checkered flag in 13th.

The 14th round of Monster Energy Supercross will take place next weekend on Saturday, April 16th from the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Missouri.
