In the 250 class, Marshal Weltin did not waste any time and established himself as the man to beat for the SX Tour championship. On Friday, Weltin had two great races involving battles with different riders, but with a common ending of victory. With a 1-1 result, the KX 250 rider grabbed the round-1 overall as well as the lead in the championship. The next day, in the first moto, Marshal got stuck in a crash in the first corner and had to start from 11th place. Multiple passes later, he was able to make his way to 4th and settle there until the checkered flag waved. Due to the short series, Weltin knew he couldn’t make any more mistakes and redeemed himself with an almost perfect race in Moto 2, consisting of himself leading every lap but the 1st one and grabbing his 3rd victory of the weekend. Despite some troubles in the morning moto, his 4-1 result were enough to him to secure his 2nd overall win and extend his championship lead. |

Matt Goerke was flying in practice on Friday and when the first gate dropped, he didn’t wait long to go from 4th to putting pressure on the lead. Unfortunately, during his battle for 1st, Matt got entangled with the leader and found himself on the ground and back to 9th. He was able to recover quickly and crossed the finish line in 6th place. The 2nd moto start was not as good, but again, Matt charged early on and was able to finish in 2nd place, giving him 3rd overall for the 1st round of the SX Tour series. On Saturday, Goerke kicked-off the 2nd round with an impressive race where he took the lead from mid-race on and kept it until the checkered flag. To follow his victory, the KX 450 rider pushed from a 5th to a 3rd place in the second moto which gave him 2nd overall on the day and 3rd place standing in the 450 SX Tour championship. |
