Patrick Carpentier will return to Montréal to compete in the upcoming Monster Energy Supermotocross at Olympic Stadium on September 29.
The Quebec-born driver, who resides in Las Vegas, accepted an offer from recreational product dealer Grégoire Sport to compete in the Side-by-Side race. Carpentier was in Montréal on Saturday to race in the NASCAR event on Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve.
Carpentier, who returned to car racing to benefit the Sainte-Justine Hospital HC Foundation, has no intention to start a new career. “I spent the summer in my hometown of Joliette riding a motocross bike three to four times a week at XTown (Mirabel) and other tracks in the Laurentians with Gaby Grégoire and friends. At one point, Gaby offered me the opportunity to compete in the Side-by-Side race at the upcoming Montréal Supermotocross,” said Carpentier. “I gave it some time, but competition still lives in me even though I have retired from racing, so I said why not. I will return to Montréal in mid-September to test my new Arctic Cat ride. I will have about 10 days to get ready for the event.”
“Patrick is a lifelong friend,” said Gaby Grégoire, General Manager of Grégoire Sport, which has dealerships in the Joliette (QC) area. “While we were out on the track, I asked him if he would be willing to compete in the Side-by-Side event at the Supermotocross. A few days later, he said that this could be the right time for a new challenge. This will be quite a venture, not only for Patrick, but also for the technical team at Grégoire Sport. The competition has quite a head start as they will be competing in the last round of their nine-race schedule, while this will be our very first start.”
Grégoire Sport is currently building Carpentier’s Arctic Cat Wildcat 1000. The No 32 entry will be ready on time for preliminary test prior to Patrick taking over for the final tests in mid-September. The team intends to create real racing simulations against other UTVs in order to get its star rider ready for the big showdown. Carpentier’s Grégoire Sports Wildcat 1000 is sponsored by Arctic Cat an Elka Suspensions. His ride will also carry the decals of Harco Brands, a company that manufactures and distributes innovative, low VOC wet wipes to the industrial and automotive markets.
