As expected, it was an entertaining evening in Anaheim as the gate dropped on the 2025 Monster Energy Supercross Series. In front of a sold-out Angel Stadium, Chase Sexton took the lead from Jorge Prado on the opening lap of the 450SX main event and never looked back. It was a dominating performance and one that no doubt gave a big boost to the KTM Group! In the 250SX West class, Jo Shimoda finally got a good start and rode the way we all knew he was capable of. The end result was a big win over Julien Beaumer and Jordon Smith. The series heads south to San Diego for Round 2 this coming Saturday. However, before we head there, let’s look back at the season opener in Anaheim through the talented lens of James Lissimore.
Fans from around the Globe were exciting for the opening round of SX. Noah Viney and Cole Thompson were the two Canadian riders to make the main event at A1. Jorge Prado grabs the first 450SX main event holeshot of 2025. Jason Anderson came out swinging at A1 and got himself onto the 450SX podium. Justin Barcia rode well at A1 finishing up with a 6th overall. Young JuJu looks to be a title contender in the 250SX West class. Justin Cooper had a solid night in Anaheim, but he needs to find a way to get inside the top five. Blake Davies had fun at his first ever SX, but came up just short of making the night show. Hunter Lawrence was up front early in the main event, but dropped back to 11th after a crash. The defending champ had a rough opening main event of 2025. Caden Lee had Vince Friese’s bike all ready to go in Anaheim. Preston Masciangelo rode smart at A1 and finished 19th in the LCQ. It was a quiet opening round for AP7 as he could only muster a 9th place finish. Jorge Prado looked great in the first half of the 450SX main event, but he got a little loose in the closing laps. The PRMX Partzilla Team looked great in the A1 paddock. Ken Roczen rode great at A1 and ended up finishing in second place. The man of the hour Chase Sexton was fun to watch at the season opener. Chase Seston had a great off-season and he was able to carry that momentum into A1. Finally, Jo Shimoda got the start he wanted and ended up with the finish he wanted. Jordon Smith rode smooth and gave his team their first ever SX podium. Unfortunately, St-Cyr had a big crash in practice and was unable to continue. Malcolm Stewart hit the ground hard in this heat race, but came back in the main event to finish tenth. Our boy Cole Thompson rode great on Saturday night and finished 10th in the 250SX West main event. Eli Tomac came into the opening round focused and ready to do business. Cooper Webb put in a late charge in the 450SX main event and almost passed JA21 for third on the last lap. Your 250SX West class podium from A1.
