The 3 Q’s With Ryan Lockhart Presented By Atlas Brace Canada

MXP: Obviously, a lot has changed over the years when it comes to the demands for a pro rider in Canada. What do you think has changed the most for our top pro riders, and do you think things are more challenging today than, say, 20 years ago?
RL: I think just the fact that the level of training is so much higher than it was back in the day. These guys are working just as hard off the bike as they are on the bike, which is much different. We didn’t have the structure of today’s top riders, we just went with it, raced on the weekends and rode during the week and repeat. So to answer the question, yes, being a pro rider is more challenging these days purely because of the structure. The sport in general has taken a leap forward, which has also taken some of the fun out of it.

MXP: This weekend is the first 250SX East/West Shootout race in Birmingham. Do you think Deegan will dominate, or will an East Coast rider take the win?
RL: I think you can’t argue that Deegan will win. Of course, it will depend on the start, and Deeg’s starts haven’t been great this year. If anyone can run with him, it will be Cole Davies. I have heard a lot about maybe Levi Kitchen, but no chance. I believe Davies and Deegan are on a different level.

MXP: Looking ahead to the opening round of the 2026 Triple Crown Series, give us your Top 3 finishers in the first 250 and 450 motos?
RL: Wow, this is an early question to have to answer as we’re still over two months from the opening round. Based on past results in Calgary, the 250 class will be Preston Kilroy, Vincent Wey, and Dylan Rempel. The 450 class will be Dylan Wright, Ryder McNabb, and Harri Kulas. Oh, and Julien Cerny will most likely finish 19th.
