MXP: Hey Newf! Can you tell us about the training camp, that you took your son Meston to this past weekend? We heard it was busy and very well run.
RL: Yes, the Moto Academy came up and did a one-day class in Kelowna. I thought this was a great opportunity to try something different and see what it’s all about. I was impressed with the organization, structure and attention to detail that coach Ty provided for the kids. Meston really enjoyed it and I also enjoyed sitting back and watching Meston get told most of the same things that I tell him, but rather than him telling me I don’t know what I’m talking about, he was actually listening haha. I put him in there for the experience of doing it and I think it really was a great day.

MXP: The opening round of the Future West MX Series is fast approaching. How is everything looking for the opening race in Kelowna?
RL: Just a little over a week away from the first gate drop and I think everything is looking good. We are all organized behind the scenes on the Future West side of things. The Kelowna Dirt Bike Club has done a ton of work to the track and facility, and are ready for a big turnout. The negative part we are all facing right now across the country is the outlandish gas prices. Here in parts of BC we are paying $2.16 per litre for regular and $2.69 per litre for diesel, so I have to think this is going to put a hurting on some of the families who have to come from far away. I fully understand and not much we can do, but hope for the best and try and put on the best event as possible.

MXP: After winning two races in a row, Ken Roczen is now five points out of the lead in the 450SX class with five rounds remaining. Can KR94 pull off one of the biggest upsets this sport has witnessed in some time and win the 450SX Championship?
RL: I really hope so. What a story either way. To be honest, he has been the best rider for the past month and just seems to be doing everything right. There is still a lot of racing to go and anything can happen, but the momentum is on Kenny’s side right now. I have no idea what is going on with Eli right now, but it doesn’t look good and Hunter is fighting a small wrist injury, which I think will be fine here in another week. Exciting for sure, but I also feel like it’s any of those three guys to lose at this point.
