Royal Distributing Presents Young And On The Rise With Zack Lavallee

Words and Photos by Carrie Brown

Zack Lavallée is a very talented 8-year-old rider from Sorel, Quebec who started riding when he was only 3-years-old, has been racing since he was 5-years-old, and has already visited the podium many times. Zack is definitely moving forward to becoming a future star in Canadian Motocross.

MXP: Hey Zack, thanks for chatting with me today. What kind of bike do you ride and what is your number?

ZL: I ride a Cobra 50, I recently just got a Cobra 65, and my number is 212.

Do you race with any clubs or in a series?

I race at the Challenge Quebec Provincial Series – 50cc 7-8 and 50cc Open, and this past weekend I entered into the Rockstar Triple Crown Supercross at the Videotron Center in Quebec City, Quebec.

Yes, I saw you out on the track, you looked amazing and handled it like a Pro!

Did you have fun and did you like it?

At first I was a bit nervous, because this was my first experience on this type of track.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have the result I was expecting but I really appreciated having the chance to race on that kind of event. Having the chance to perform on exactly the same track as the Pros and having the crowd cheering was amazing; such a great track, too. I am looking forward to getting more experience on Supercross tracks, and next year I’ll be able to get better results and maybe get on the podium.

Do you have a favourite track that you like riding?

I’d have to say my favourite track is Motocross Deschambault because that’s the track where I finally cleared a double jump. Also, this track has a lot of different types of whoops and jumps, so I can get all the practice in I need, and it has a lot of sand.

Do you have a hero or someone you look up to?

Recently I attended the Nitro Circus and I had the chance to meet Travis Pastrana. I was really impressed by the way he was so simple and generous even though he is well known all around the world. There is no limit for him. Being a legend and being so accessible seams unreal! A great moment!

Who is your favourite rider and why?

My favourite rider is Kaven Benoit. He worked hard to be successful.

Is there a Canadian rider that you look up to, and why?

Colton Facciotti because I like the way he looks calm and in control when he is racing. Also because he is a multi-time Canadian Champion.

So, since you’re still young and haven’t raced that much, are there any big accomplishments you have achieved?

This past summer, I won Championships in my two classes: 50cc 7-8 And 50cc Open. I did all the races and also participated in Deschambault’s ECAN where I did my first race on my Cobra 65cc.

With the 2018 season now over, what are your future goals?

Well, I’m expecting to race my 65cc next season. There is a new indoor track opening up this year, called Motocross Interior Quebec. I hope to get more practice in during the winter. I also play hockey to keep active.

My Mom is always telling me to learn to be proud of everything I do on the MX track, whether it’s a good outcome or not. She says to take everything in and learn to race, and be patient with every obstacle on and off the track. I will be working on this and maybe I can get more positive results with racing my 65cc.

MXP Mom has some great advice!

What is your favourite part about going to the races?

I love racing dirt bikes, and being able to spend all day on Saturdays practicing and then racing on Sunday. I live to hang out with my MX friends, which I miss a lot over the winter. Getting the Holeshot is not so bad either.

What do like to do when you’re not racing?

I enjoy hanging out with my friends, and I play hockey for Les Mariniers Novice 2 team.

Thank you for taking the time to chat with us today, but one last question, who would you like to thank?

I would like to thank my Mom and Dad for everything they do for me, and of course my grandparents Lavallée; I wouldn’t be able to race if it wasn’t for them.

Big thanks to Ian Parent and Hugo Bolduc from Cobra Moto Quebec for helping with my amazing COBRA bikes. Thanks Paille Chevrolet GMC for all their help, too.

Thank you to the Rockstar Triple Crown Series too for bringing the SX Tour to Quebec City. I totally had a blast.

Zack Lavallée is a very determined young rider with big goals and dreams. The future of Canadian Motocross is definitely brighter with Zack Lavallée at the starting gates. We are looking forward to seeing him on the track and the podium again the future.
