Behind the Lens Presented By Canadian Kawasaki Motors Inc: Round 9-Indianapolis

What would a round of the 2026 Monster Energy Supercross Series be without drama? After a fairly quiet Round 8 in Daytona the week before, the riders came into Indianapolis excited to be back at one of the coolest stops of the series. Even though the dirt is always soft and rutted inside Lucas Oil Stadium, everyone enjoys coming to Indianapolis, as the city has always been friendly to SX. This year, it was Cole Davies taking the overall win in the 250SX East class, with a clean sweep of the three main events, while Hunter Lawrence used some crafty riding and a few fortunate breaks with lapped riders to secure the 450SX class win over Eli Tomac. Now, the series takes a week off before resuming in Birmingham on March 21st. To look back at what went on at Round 9, here are some amazing photos from Matt Wellumson.

There is nothing like opening ceremonies inside Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Cowboy waves to his faithful Indy fans.

No one had J-Coop passing Tomac for the win in main event #2 on their bingo card.

The whoops were a real make-or-break section in Indy.

We’ve been waiting all series for Justin Cooper to win a race in the 450SX class.

Christian Craig has been quietly having a good season in 2026.

Cole Davies made quick work of everyone to win all three main events this past weekend.

It’s sometimes hard to tell if Cole is happy or mad, even after his wins.

Once again, Vince Friese was in the spotlight, but for all of the wrong reasons.

Here is proof that Friese at least tries to look back when he’s being lapped.

This is what the new press conference format looks like.

Jorge Prado was back for Round 9 and looked fast all night long.

Ken Roczen dominated the opening main event, but unfortunately, he had a big crash in the second race.

Joey Savatgy had a crash in the final main event and may have injured his ankle.

Joe Shimoda was fast in Indy, but appeared to struggle a little in the ruts.

Indy featured yet another right-hand first corner.

Jalek Swoll ran up front in two of the three 250SX East main events.

Cole Thompson qualified for the 450SX main events and rode well all night long.

It seems like the more technical the track is, the better Cole Thompson rides.

And of course, Cole won the prize for the best-looking mechanic.

Eli Tomac was the fastest rider in Indy, but some bad luck cost him the overall win.

Cooper Webb looked like he wanted to win Indy so badly. But he was not on the pace of the leaders.
