The first round of the East Women’s Nationals was July 9th at Gopher Dunes, ON where 35 ladies entered to race. It was a really hot day at the Dunes and the track was incredibly rough, as Gopher always gets on race day.
Both moto 1 and moto 2 were dominated by reigning champion, Eve Brodeur, who also took both of the MX & Off-road Magazine Holeshot Awards on her KTM 250 2-stroke. In second place for both motos was the #734 of Jacqueline Ross, who came up from Florida to race the series this year.
Shannon Fleming and Julia Kremien also came up from the states to race at Gopher at received 3rd (4-3) and 4th (3-7) overall, respectively. Quebec Native Kim Normandin rode 2 consistent motos and got 5th overall (5-5).
Isabelle Thibault caught our attention this weekend. She got a bad start in moto one and crashed, then battled all the way back up to 8th. Second moto she got 8th as well for 8th overall. She rode hard both motos and received the Gibson Tyre Hard Charger Award and received a rear Gibson tire as well!
The top ten overall from Gopher were:
1. Eve Brodeur
2. Jacqueline Ross
3. Shannon Fleming
4. Julia Kremien
5. Kim Normandin
6. Brittany Gagne
