KTM Canada Presents The WMX West Series Race Report: Round 1- Wild Rose MX Park

Coming into the 2024 Thor WMX West Series opening round, all eyes were on Eve Brodeur to see if she could pick up where she left off a year ago. Eve was the dominant rider last year in both the Thor WMX East and West Series, and most feel that 2024 will produce the same high level of riding that we’re used to seeing from the multi-time champion. However, with each passing season, all of the other WMX riders keep working harder and harder to try and not only get closer to Eve but also try and get in front of her.

The opening moto this past weekend saw an exciting battle for the lead as Eve and American speedster Viviana Contreras put on quite a show. Kaylie Kayer even got in on the battle for a few laps before dropping back slightly and settling for third. Behind the top three was the fast trio of Lexi Pechout, Katrine Ferguson, and Annalyse Lopushinshy, who were only a few seconds apart for most of the moto. The fans were cheering loudly as our talented WMX riders battled hard right to the end of the moto. In the end, Brodeur held on to win the opening race of the 2024 season.

Moto two started with Contreras grabbing the holeshot and instantly pulling away. Brodeur didn’t start well and was forced to pass Kayer late in the moto to secure second place. Pechout grabbed 4th, while young Katrine Ferguson put up the best fight we’ve seen in a long time to hold off Lopushinsky for almost the entire moto. The fans were cheering every time these two riders came by, as everyone could appreciate their high skill level and determination. It was an entertaining start to the season, and now we look forward to Round 2 this coming weekend in Raymond, Alberta. To celebrate the opening round of the 2024 Thor WMX West Series, here are the full results as well as some incredible photos by James Lissimore.

American Viviana Contreras was very smooth and fast in Calgary as she took the overall win.

Eve Brodeur rode strong at the opening round and took home second overall with a 1-2 moto score.

Riding for the MVP Husqvarna Team, Kaylie Kayer battled hard to finish on the podium.

Lexi Pechout showed some great speed at the opening round and just missed out on the podium.

The ride of the day went to Katrine Ferguson who had her best career finish at the opening round,

It was great to see Tea Ferguson back on the track after getting injured last summer at the ECAN.
