The past few weeks out west have been what I have expected…amazing! Being able to travel for the Monster Energy Motocross Nationals and see some of your best friends during your stay can’t be any more pleasing. During the first Round in Nanaimo we did experience some soaking rain that made a war of a race! Although I have never seen so much determination by all riders to finish or finish their bikes. Maybe it was a little taste of our wet 2011 season and a test for the riders’ strength for a long season. On Vancouver Island I was able to meet up with my good, southern friend Andy Browning who the islanders now call “Big Country”. Andy was on board with me for both the Nanaimo and Kamloops Nationals and was able to work out of his house editing video of BC’s beautiful mountain landscapes. Our tour involved a quick side track on the back roads to Tofino for a sunset cheers, and sunrise surf then back on the road.

During the second round at Whispering Pines, Kamloops, I helped arrange for Western Powersports to be a part of the vendors row. Desi and Jordan made the journey from Langley to Kamloops, BC to support their amateur and pro riders, display a Yamaha YZ450F and YZ250F and hand out free bottles of water to passing fans. They enjoyed just being a part of the market they love so much, and even brought a brand new Yamaha Rhino for MXP to use for our gear. Desi, who runs the program and who originally had grown up racing Motocross in California and put in place the first of 3 Vancouver Supercross events that suffered poor attendances, is wide open at WPS, looking to build their race program and support for Motocross’ grassroots. Right now, WPS has 11 riders from Amateur to Pro. For any other Yamaha Related Inquiries and full Yamaha availability, please call 1 888 819 8188 and visit www.westernpowersports.com

A third of the pro motocross national tour has completed, and only a few different winners. It seems the riders that are hungry are making improvements every weekend and ready to take the big win. Some have tasted holeshots and a podium finish and others are fighting for the top 5. The industry and media have shown great support with plenty of photographers and video crews. Everyone is stoked to capture and expose the talent that races our Canadian tracks. Track conditions are always a mystery and have had 2 out of 3 dry and decent conditions. Attendance was the largest in Calgary where local fans filled the hillside. Behind the scenes with the Teams, mechanics and
riders, I have noticed a smooth running atmosphere; Riders are humble and open to fans and media. The road now leads us to Edmonton where you can probably find a lot of reality TV crews filming crazy, drilling drama shows and this weekend’s Motocross National at Castrol Raceway. Saturday will feature the Amateur racing where it all starts and needs to be supported.

I have been putting together coverage of Race weekends for MXP Films from Nanaimo, Kamloops and Calgary. All can be viewed at WWW.MXPMAG.COM in the (VIDEOS) tab, with decent sized thumbnails with event titles. Another great addition to this year’s Nationals is the media conference. It takes place the day before Pro race day in the Monster Energy promotional rig. A great atmosphere with all the top riders at the head table with their race helmets. Kids have been known to get MXP magazines, T-shirts and even their foreheads signed!

However I will be flying straight to Santa Barbara with Kyle Beaton to meet with Chris Pomeroy to test the new 2013 KAWASAKI KX450F. This is an exciting offer from Kawasaki to be able to test and video with an exclusive group of industry leaders.

A big thank you to the Foster Family, Lucas and Alanna baby Mason and Tyson the radest dog for putting me up for this productive week in Calgary and dropping me off at the Greyhound bus station. Yes that’s right, riding the bus up to Edmonton for three hours. That’s what I have to do… see you in the pool at the Hotel!
