Between the motorcycles we ride, the new techniques that are being used to ride, and the new products that are being designed to keep us safe while riding, the current innovation in our sport, has never been better than it is right now. Just in the past year alone we have seen new designs when it comes to helmets, boots, neck braces, and now with the release of these new X8H Hybrid Knee Support Product from Mobius, we have new knee guards.
Over the year’s I’ve been extremely picky about the type and style of protective wear I use on my knees. I’ve tried everything from generic knee braces to every kind of knee guards/pads on the market. The only knee support I haven’t tried are custom made knee braces, and that is because so far I’ve been fortunate enough to not have any serious knee injuries (insert sound of me knocking on wood). Another reason I’ve been so particular about the type of protective wear I use on my knees, is that genetically I have large quad muscles, but the area through my knees and into my lower leg is thin. Meaning, if I were to invest in knee braces, I would have to go the custom knee brace route in order to have the proper fit. Finally, when it comes to gripping the bike with my knees, like most riders, I prefer to have as little material or structure between the inside of my knees and the bike. So, this goes back to my original point when I stated that I’m very particular when it comes to what I wear on my knees.

“The Mobius X8H Hybrid Knee Supports – being a hybrid between a knee brace and a knee guard.
The X8H has the non-migrating ligament support not offered by traditional knee guards, and features full knee protection, minimal profile, maximum ventilation and is lightweight.
Plus, they offer a cost efficient form of knee protection combined with a more supportive system that provides more than impact protection.
These are the latest addition to the Mobius family, inspired by the foundation of the groundbreaking, patented technology found in the Mobius X8 Knee Braces, and the X8H utilizes a version of this technology with the unique Tendon Back Plate support system.
The dual hinge design coupled with the Tendon Back Plate security system provides support to the main ligaments to the knee, prevents migration and is well ventilated.
Features:
- Hybrid design between a knee brace and a knee guard
- Tendon Back Plate patented support system, inspired by the popular Mobius X8 knee braces
- Dual hinge design”
This explains why I was so excited when Mobius released these all-new Hybrid X8H Knee Supports this summer. My first thought was finally, after all of these years, a product that was perfect for me and my riding needs. When I first unpacked them, the first thing I noticed was how lightweight, yet durable they felt. From a torsion point of view, they felt strong, almost like a knee brace. Even the system Mobius uses to attach these new X8H knee guards to your leg is very ‘knee brace’ like. The upper support uses a ratchet type strap that is easily adjustable on each side. From there, the patented tendon back plate system supports and protects the back of your knee, and then attaches the bottom part of the X8H knee pad to the lower part of your leg. They are also easy and quick to take on and off, and after a few days of testing I found leaving one side of the top ratchet straps always attached worked the best for me. Finally, because I tested this new product in the hot summer months, I was impressed with how ventilated they were, and even with the long moto knee socks that I always wear under my knee protection, I still felt cool.

Once on the track, the new Mobius Hybrid X8H Knee Supports were comfortable, and with their slim design, I had little trouble gripping my bike. I even slid out in a corner and jammed my right knee into the ground. Obviously, I didn’t mean to, but it did give me an opportunity to see what level of impact protection these new Mobius X8H knee guards offered. To be honest, I didn’t even feel the impact, as the foam in these pads offered great protection. Even during a few longer rides that lasted over 30 minutes, these were so comfortable, to the points where I didn’t even notice that I was wearing knee protection.
As you can tell, I really enjoyed testing these new Mobius Hybrid X8H Knee Supports from Mobius. If you’re like me and can’t or don’t want to wear full-on knee braces when you’re riding, these are perfect for you. In fact, I’ve moved from my testing bin to my gear bag, and I wear them every time I ride now. Finally, this new product from Mobius is reasonably priced at $299.00, and comes in two colours (white/black and black/grey). There are also three sizes available (2XS/XS) (S/M) (L/XL).
