Behind the Lens From Atlanta With Frank Hoppen

What a night it was in Atlanta, GA on Saturday for round 8 of the 2015 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series. For Chad Reed fans they certainly got what they’ve been waiting for as the ageless wonder grabbed the holeshot in the main event and never looked back. Reed once again proved that you just can never count him out as he’s now doing what few have been able to do before him; continue to win races into their thirties. Thankfully for MXP Frank Hoppen was on hand to captured all of the action that went down inside the Georgia Dome.

There is nothing quite like the opening ceremonies at a Monster Energy AMA Supercross.

atltrack

Like last weekend in Dallas, the inside of the Georgia Dome is massive. As a rider you feel very small when you stand and wait for your turn to take to the track.

One of the cool aspects of the Atlanta SX is that all of the pits are indoors. This is great for both the teams and the spectators.

With the one triple being along the end zone of the stadium floor, riders were forced to hit the face of the first jump on an angle. Here, Jason Anderson already has his inside leg out in anticipation of turning in mid-air.

atlbogle

Last year’s champion Justin Bogle and Jeremy Martin put on quite a show as they battled numerous times in Atlanta. In the end, Martin would get the better of the duel as he won his first race of 2015.

atlcanard

The Atlanta track featured its usual red clay soil as well as a few cool obstacles. Trey Canard rode well all day at round 8 to finish in third place.

atlgrant

For the second time in two weeks, Josh Grant rode well and finished inside the top ten.

During the 250SX main event, Jeremy Martin and last week’s winner Marvin Musquin had quite a battle for the top spot on podium.

atlmartin

After dominating the 2014 AMA Outdoor Nationals, Jeremy Martin worked hard all winter on his supercross skills; now that work appears to paying off.

atlmillsaps

Once again in Atlanta, Davi Millsaps had an awful night. While no one has said what might be wrong with the Kawasaki star, everyone hopes he can regain his speed in the coming rounds.

atlpeick

Since returning from injury last weekend in Dallas, JGR Yamaha rider Weston Peick has shown tremendous speed. In Atlanta, Peick would run inside the top three for most of the main event before slipping back to 5th place.

atlweimer

Once again a bad start got the better of Jake Weimer in Atlanta, however his new Seven gear was completely on point.

atlseely

Cole Seely demonstrates the proper form to use when the whoops are deep. All you have to do is just lean back and pin it.

atltickle

Broc Tickle has been one of the pleasant surprises of the 2015 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series. In Atlanta, Tickle rode strong once again, and consistent enough to finish 6th in the main event.

atltonus

Arnaud Tonus had a rough time in Atlanta and could only finish as high as 10th in the 250SX main event. Look for great things from this Frenchman in the future as he is a very smooth and talented rider.

atltomac

Eli Tomac had a great main event going until he tucked the front end under while entering a corner and crashed hard. So far in 2015, Tomac has been fast but has also struggled with his consistency.

These next three photos are a tribute to Chad Reed and his very popular win in Atlanta. Reed holeshotted the main event and led all twenty laps to take his first victory of 2015.

These three 250SX riders may take this 2015 title right down to the final round in Las Vegas.

There aren’t too many people in the supercross world these days who don’t like to see Chad Reed win. Ryan Dungey was once again Mr. Smooth and took an easy 2nd place behind Reed.
