2015 Schraders Yamaha CMRC West Women’s Wrap Up by Camille Bunko

The 2015 Western Canadian Women’s Nationals presented by Schraders Yamaha was our most successful year yet! We had record number of entries at each of the three rounds and finished off the series with a full gate of women at the Wild Rose Motocross Park in Calgary, Alberta. We had a huge number of sponsors this year that have supported the Women’s Nationals and have helped the numbers and competition grow immensely. Dunlop sponsored the series with a hard charger award, giving out a set of tires to a rider at each round that gave it their all. Jamie Munro, Kennedy Lutz and Rachel Springman were all presented this award. Canada’s Motorcycle gave out the holeshot award for each moto making the starts very intense for the women. Alternative Groove and Kindred Custom Snowboards gave out snowboards as trophies to the top three for the Nanaimo round. Kristi Moore, M7 Designs and Blackfoot Direct also came up with some pretty cool trophies for the Calgary round that made the boys jealous. On top of all of that we had local sponsors that gave a purse to the top ten at each round and series sponsors that gave out a purse to the top ten overall. We also had a ton of products that were given out at our draw table at the end of the day in which every girl that entered got to go home with a prize. We cannot thank all of our amazing sponsors enough for their support.

Since I have already bragged enough about our awesome series, we should talk about the people who we are doing this all for…the riders! Sara King is our 2015 Women’s West Champion! She has put the work in this winter and with Sierra Roth coaching her, she has come out on top. Rachel Springman took the next spot with second overall for the series. She is one of the smoothest and most consistent riders out there. Brittney Danyluck had an impressive season and took third overall, she is not scared of anything! Kennedy Lutz dominated round one, went 2-1 in Nanaimo and was looking to take the championship but unfortunately fell practicing, injuring her knee and was not able to make the last round in Calgary giving her fourth overall for the year. Dominique Daffe had a great weekend in Calgary putting her into fifth overall for the series. Jamie Munro rode very strong all season but had a fall in Calgary which put her into sixth overall. Madi Watt earned her first top ten number with number seven as well as the Cycle North, Most Imporved Rider Award. She had terrible starts in almost every moto but fought hard and worked her way up. Look for her to be in the top five next year! Camille Bunko took eighth, not bad after having a baby six months ago! Kate Lees ended up ninth and Danika White kept her number ten from last year. There were impressive battles throughout the field and all of the girls have been training harder than ever and have all stepped it up.

Great race action, gutsy riding, money, prizes and huge smiles, the 2015 Schraders Yamaha CMRC West Women’s Series had it all. Congratulations to Sara King on her championship. photo by Michael Earle

As many of you have already heard, Denaye and I are stepping down from organizing the Women’s Nationals. It has been four amazing years and we have been able to watch the progression of women’s motocross grow before our eyes. We cannot thank everyone who has helped us out over the years enough. All of the sponsors, media, CMRC staff and everyone else who has supported us have been able to come together and give the women the series they deserve. Kristi Moore and Sierra Roth have been helping us out for the last few years and are now stepping up and will continue with the west series. It will be great to have new faces that will bring fresh ideas and excitement to the table. And who knows, maybe the CMRC will step up and help get a manufacturer to be a title sponsor! Thanks again to everyone for all of their hard work and generosity. See you in the beer gardens! 🙂

Support those who support you,
