Yamaha Motor Canada Presents Results From Sand Del Lee- Day 1

Well, it was quite an interesting day at Sand Del Lee as we saw Jess Pettis clinch the 250MX Championship and we saw Dylan Wright and Phil Nicoletti come together while dicing in Moto 1. For Pettis, he once again dominated the opening moto this morning in the process he gained enough points over second-place rider Marshal Weltin to win his second 250MX title. It’s been a great summer for Pettis and his KTM Canada Team and now with the title all wrapped up, all they have left is to try and win both motos tomorrow.

In the 450MX class, heading into Moto 1 this morning Dylan Wright led Phil Nicoletti by 24 points. When the gate dropped Nicoletti was out front with Wright not far behind. For 15 minutes these two warriors weren’t more than a few bike lengths apart as they battled for the lead. With Nicoletti leading, Wright went for a very aggressive pass and the two riders came together in the air. Nicoletti ended up getting the worst of it with a banged-up right hand, a large abrasion on his back (from Wright’s rear tire), and a trip to the local hospital. As of this evening, the Doctors found no broken bones in Nicoletti’s hand and everything checked out okay. He’s obviously very sore and will not be racing tomorrow, but thankfully he’s going to heal up. As for Wright, he went on to easily win the opening 450 moto, although he was clearly shaken up after the race.

It was an entertaining opening moto and now the riders get to do it all over again tomorrow. With perfect racing weather and a very well prepared track, the racing will no doubt be good for the final motos of the summer.
