Leading Edge Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Austin Politelli started just inside the top 5 to take the first moto of the day at the Monster Energy CMRC Motocross National in Calgary, Alberta.
Cycle North rider Brad Nauditt snared the Royal Distributing hole shot and lead for the opening laps ahead of KTM Canada Red Bull Fox Canada rider Kaven Beniot. Politelli soon closed in to create a three way battle for the lead. Beniot and Politelli eventually pushed through and Nauditt found himself under attack from RTR Honda racer Topher Ingalls.
Beniot would make the first big mistake of the day when he crashed and broke a lever ending his moto, handing the lead to Politelli. Ingalls would move up to second and hold a comfortable gap over Nauditt.
American Josh Clark tried to close the gap to third but ran out of time holding onto 4th place continuing his strong season. GDR Honda rider Blake Savage crossed the line in 5th, ahead of Jared Allison, Parker Allison, Landen Powell and Richard Grey.
