Behind the Lens From the 2016 Daytona Supercross

Thanks to Frank Hoppen we get a closer look at just what went down on Saturday night at the World’s most famous speedway. Not only did the Daytona Supercross produce two first time 2016 winners in Eli Tomac and Jeremy Martin, but with the rough track, it made for without a doubt the toughest race of the year thus far.

day anderson

Jason Anderson has been fast all year long and last weekend he continued to show his speed. During practice he us shows exactly how to navigate a deep Daytona rut.

day dungey

With nothing for 450SX winner Eli Tomac, Ryan Dungey did the smart thing and rode to a safe second place in the main event.

day grant

The fans in Daytona were very excited to see Josh Grant back on the race track. He not only rode to an incredible 7th in the main event, but he also showed us some good old Josh Grant style.

day golden

Vicki Golden did her best in Daytona and rode very well, but would come up well short of making the 250SX main event

day martin

Jeremy Martin used a few of his superior outdoor skills on the rough Daytona track to win his first race of 2016.

day mookie

Malcolm Stewart once again showed great speed in Daytona. However, the younger Stewart Brother couldn’t hold off the hard charging Martin in the closing laps of the 250SX main event.

day musquin

We think it’s safe to say that Marvin Musquin is very confident right now in Supercross.

day reed1

The look on Chad Reed’s face pretty much says how he felt about the Daytona track.

day reed2

And more than likely, because of Reed’s disdain for the tight Daytona circuit, he was well off the pace and spent alot of time eating roost.

day seely

Cole Seely wasn’t great in Daytona, but he managed to ride smart and keep his top ten streak going in 2016.

day stewart

After another head shaking mistake during his heat race, James Stewart was forced to sit out the rest of night in Daytona with a badly bruised lower back.

day stewart1

Not to kick him when he’s already down, but there’s no way that James Stewart is in the shape that he should be. At 30 years old and with hopefully alot of money in the bank, one must wonder if this is the beginning of the end for the former fastest rider on the planet?

day tomac1

With much more room on the RC designed hybrid SX track. Eli Tomac had little problem winning the Daytona main event.

day track

With an abundance of switchback turns and very little opportunity for passing, few riders were fond of the Daytona track.

day tunnel

The tunnels that take you to the infield at the Daytona International Speedway must have alot of cool stories from the many years of racing.
