Hello friends and race fans from coast to coast, once again BAAM, just like that it’s time for your ‘Friday Flight.’ Like the many weeks that have preceded this week’s edition, It is virtually impossible to express my sentiments on what a great season 2015 has been in Canadian Motocross. I am almost starting to feel a little like Bill Murray must have in Ground Hog Day as he repeatedly looked into the direction of his alarm clock. No, I promise I won’t break out into “I’ve got you babe,” I will say, though, that I am absolutely thrilled that the epic script being written on and off the race track in Canadian Motocross in 2015 has continued to repeat itself. For myself and many like me it has been a calendar year filled with firsts of many along with some great additions to my treasured trophy chest of memories.

Even though I was not in London, Ontario first hand for Round one of the inaugural AX-Tour’s Canadian voyage, I followed along from home. By all accounts it looks like Round one met or exceeded any expectations that may or may not have been placed on it. Round one could have not gotten any better coverage from those behind our Canadian Moto media outlets; nice work all. I am pretty sure when all is said and done for this first season, everyone involved on and off the race track will collectively look at their watches and go ‘wow!’ That was fun and it sure went by quickly.
In an effort to get a firsthand account and a good take from one of those in the trenches at Round one, I gave my friend, Rockstar OTSFF’s Bobby Kiniry, a ring. Bobby won the first two main of events of this series on Friday night. I was anxious to not only congratulate him but to see how he was feeling. In case you missed it in the Clash for Cash on Saturday night, Bobby looking to wrap up an already very successful weekend in London went down. He found himself sitting fourth early in the final Moto of the night. He felt the rider in front of him was holding him up a little and that if he did not pull the trigger and go, he would lose the leaders and any chance to win. Bobby went down and had to charge from the back of the pack. While in catch up mode he made an alternate line choice in the ‘Rockers’ that sent him down hard. He was a little banged up afterwards and winded but told me that if it was not raining so hard today he would be out riding (Wednesday) – good news. Kiniry also said that he was very pumped on the series and was happy to put his Yamaha on the top step of the box for the first two main events. In our conversation he spoke on the series opener and said,”the vibe was great,” “It was very professionally done,” “I can not wait for Sarnia to get back at it.” Bobby is also scheduled and very much looking forward to racing an Arenacross event this weekend at the Pepsi Arena in Albany, New York. “There is more good money to be had there this weekend and I am pretty excited about it.” He admitted when I asked him about keeping the momentum going that it is simply the best way for him. “I am the happiest when I am racing and focussing on that.” It was also very cool to see Bobby’s wife, Brittany, and his two young daughters in attendance to take in opening weekend in London. When I asked Bob about that he was proud to announce that his oldest daughter is now able to recognize him on the racetrack and having them there to cheer for him just adds to the great experience. Before I shook Bobby loose I asked him if he had a deal or plans to pursue the Amsoil Arenacross Series again this season. He said he was currently sorting through offers, one of which was that as well as a potential Supercross deal for 2016. Good luck this weekend in Albany Bobby and the rest of the way through the AX-Tour and beyond, and thanks for picking up the phone.

Everyone in BC is ready for the 2015 Future West Canadian AX Championships to begin. photo by Clayton Racicot
Right here in beautiful sunny Armstrong, BC, it is 23 degrees and we are just hours away from gate drop at Round one of the Future West Moto Canadian Arenacross series. I have been heavily involved and doing everything I can to make this event as good as it can possibly be. I have witnessed this series evolve and do many great things over the years, and am a very proud team member of Future West Moto. This series would not be possible and would not have hit the marks it has without the efforts of each of our team members work. Yes, this is your moment for all of you to tip your hat or take a quick bow. You know who you are. Thanks for your efforts all of you. Now put your seat belts on as things are about to get wild quickly. Wild? You bet. The table is set in Armstrong, BC for Round one of this series and the small community that is home to the Province’s Interior Provincial Exhibition. The community has welcomed us with open arms. When I circulated promotional flyers and posters, every single person was happy we were coming back. Last year the venue was packed for both nights of racing action and this year promises to be no different. I believe the idea of going to a new, out of the box small town plays a huge part in exposing this sport to new markets and attracting out of industry support. The soil used for this venue is of some of the richest, vibrant, race soil imaginable. The venue will see an outside of the Arena start, and let me tell you the ambience and anticipation this creates is pretty amazing. Future West Moto has continued to evolve their product on and off the track, and this year has reinstated that ‘Champions Will Be Crowned.’ Last year it was decided there would be no overall Future West Moto Canadian Arenacross Champion and that just each displacement would be crowned. This year will see a Lites, an Open class and an Overall top level victor recognized for their achievements. All top 10 overall riders will qualify to wear those numbers the following season. I think this is a great idea and as a race fan it will be a ton of fun to watch riders manage the adversities in the quest of all 16 top level Motos.
The table has been set not only at the top level but for each and every classification and age category of rider. There are Motocross schools scheduled for all four weekends of this series and are separated into two bike sizes. Top level riders Ryan Lockhart, Ross Johnson and Adam Enticknap will take care of the tutoring duties in Armstrong. More details about these great schools plus the ‘All you need to know’ for each event can be found right here – www.futurewestmoto.ca. While over there please have a look at and support the sponsors that are making this all happen as without them you know the math on that one. Future West has always gone over and above to see that the entertainment value for everyone at these events is always the top priority. This year is no exception and without giving too much away I will just say this year’s version will be just as much of a show as it is an indoor motorcycle race. With $60,000 in purse money and more on the line for four of the four weekends of this series action, you can bank on getting your money’s worth. There has been much speculation about who will be on the line when the gate drops for this Fall Classic. It seems that everyone likes to see the names for one reason or another. I did some digging and put a list together (below) of some of the contenders we will see throughout this series at one point or another. The entertainment value is huge and the most expensive ticket is only $20. Wow, only $20. Every rider and race fan pulling into the parking lot and walking through the turn styles at these races is literally treated like the most important person at the races. That’s right, all of you are important and we need you all to keep doing your part to make this great sport what it is. Without you none of this is possible, so come join us this weekend in Armstrong, BC. If you cannot make it there, get out to Sarnia next weekend for Rounds 3-4 of the AX-tour. If you cannot make it to Armstrong, I will be on the air broadcasting ‘Live’ through my Canadian Moto Show platform at all rounds at www.canadianmotoshow.com. We will provide as much of the live play by play coverage as possible, plus include some rider of all level and ability interviews.

Over the years this series has been an excellent starting off point for a lot of talented kids. photo by Clayton Racicot
