Ross Johnson takes over points lead while Jeremy Medaglia snags another victory.
Rounds 3&4 of Future West Arenacross are now just a memory. Coming into the weekend Cycle North Honda riders Jeremy Medaglia and Ross Johnson currently owned the 1st and 3rd positions in the championship point’s race. This weekend proved that anything can happen inside the barn at Heritage Park in Chilliwack, BC when you have this kind of talent in the pro class. Johnson wasn’t able to grab a victory, but his consistency in all four mains has now moved him past his teammate to sit 1st overall as we head into the Christmas/New Year break. Medaglia had a great weekend going until the final main of the weekend which saw an uncharacteristic DNF from the usually steady racer. Arenacross is a different animal as it proved that this weekend seeing points chase really shake up. There are still lots of races to go as both Ross and Jeremy are right in the hunt for the #1 plate.
Ross Johnson showed some solid consistency this weekend helping him steal the top spot from his teammate overall. “I’m really happy with the way I rode this weekend,” states Johnson. “On Friday I just kind of finished where I started. The track was super tough to pass on so going 3-2 made for a good evening. On Saturday I holeshot the Lites main and also led the open main managing a 2nd and 3rd at the checkers. I was bummed at that because as a racer you never like to lose the lead after the 10 lap mark. Then when I figured I moved into the lead for the overall points I was all smiles knowing my good rides earned that. I still need a win. I want a win for me and Cycle North who has been so great to me in 2013.”
Jeremy Medaglia had an off weekend but still grabbed the Open main win and is right there for the point’s battle. “I just didn’t have the same mojo this weekend,” shared Medaglia. “I’ve been down at GPF training for each round and the track is a little more technical then what we saw this weekend in Chilliwack. Passing was super tough this weekend and my starts weren’t on point in the mains. I still managed to get another win and am right there for the title so that’s good. On Saturday night battling for the podium I went down washing the front end which caused for a DNF. That sucks for sure but I’m not hurt, and I’ll be sure to bounce back in the New Year. I’m happy with this whole Cycle North program and stoked to be racing this series.”
Team Manager Kourtney Lloyd is very happy so far with the results from Jeremy and Ross. “Both the boys are sitting 1-2 in the overall points so I guess to say I’m happy could be an understatement,” said a smiling Lloyd. “I knew coming in that we should be the team to beat and after 4 rounds we are. I’m super proud of both Ross and Jeremy who are both new to the series. They’ve been true professionals at every turn and Cycle North is on top. We have a big break now so the boys need to stay focused and come back in the New Year with the same mentality so we can take home a title. Between the pro team and the amateur kids, we’re overwhelmed right now with the great progress and results after 4 rounds.”
The series now takes a big break now as the Holiday season is upon us and the celebration of a New Year. Action resumes on January 17th and 18th, 2014 inside Cloverdale Agriplex in Cloverdale, BC. On behalf of Cycle North and all of its racers, we wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
