Cycle North Riders Brave the Cold in Chilliwack Topping the Points Chase

Ross Johnson sits alone atop the Open class standings

Tuesday Dec 2, 2014 – Press Release

The Future West AX series is coming to a close, but there is a lot of unfinished business for all of the Cycle North racers. “It’s been such a great season thus far. Our amateur kids are blowing me away with their skills and talent in Arenacross. The Pro riders we have all lived up to expectations so far. With two nights of racing to go Cycle North has the opportunity to bring home more championships. We couldn’t be happier,” states Team Manager Kourtney Lloyd. Future West AX wraps up this weekend in Chilliwack, BC. Racing starts at 7pm. Come out and see the Cycle North team bring home the gold.

Ross Johnson proved once again like a fine wine he gets better with time. He had a rough go of it in Cloverdale, but vowed to bounce back big in Chilliwack and fight for this title he owns from last year. The weekend started with a 3rd place finish in the opening Lites main event. Then a really strong ride to 2nd in the Friday night open main really had his confidence on the rise with the bigger track inside Heritage Park. On Saturday Ross took the good vibes and continued to shine every time he hit the track. A second place finish in the Lites, (with a broken fork) and the heroic come from behind win in the Open class has given Ross the outright lead with two mains to go. Cycle North is once again thankful to have Ross on board showing our younger riders to never quit. On a side note Cycle North and Ross Johnson will be heading to Germany on December 17th for a race. Be sure to follow @CycleNorth or @RossJohnso128 on twitter for updates.

The “Seven Deuce Deuce” really carries a positive vibe under the tent. The 24 hr smile he shares always has the pits up beat and fun. When you’re having fun good things happen in Arenacross. Adam has been training hard for AX and the upcoming SX season. It showed this weekend but the cold weather kept Adam just off the podium both nights. He still has an outside shot at the Open title so look for Adam to fight hard for his first win this last weekend.

The word tough isn’t tough enough to describe the character Shawn Maffenbeier shows on the track. The Yamaha Marine OTSFF Cycle North rider hit the ground a few times this weekend, but never let it keep him down. Hitting the box on Friday night in the Open main was the highlight of his weekend. The huge save he made off the start on Saturday night Open main was unreal. It looked so scary but the strength and talent Shawn has kept him on the bike fighting for every point on the track. Shawn is on the verge of bringing home a victory. If a young racer is looking to find a hero then look no further. Shawn Maffenbeier is ours and no cape needed.

Dylan Schmoke had a solid weekend on a borrowed Cycle North Honda. Bad starts plagued him all weekend but his aggressive style and fight always brought him inside the top 10.

Our Amateur team of Hayden Wolfe, Connor McCarron, and Tyler Gibbs (see above) just keep surprising us with their race skill. It’s important to Cycle North to have a strong Pro presence, as well as a solid Amateur one. Our riders represent us well from top to bottom giving Cycle North the edge on all our competitors at the track. Young Connor McCarron is poised to finish strong in 65B. Hayden Wolfe sits in a podium position in both Open Junior and 250 Junior. Lastly Tyler Gibbs has been perfect in 12-15 85cc action. Cycle North has had a banner year for our fans and sponsors. Hopefully you can make it out this week for the last race. Be sure to stop by the tent and grab an autograph or just say hi to our team.
