Denaye Giroux Blog: Let’s Get This Series Started

denaye headOnly a couple days left before the Women’s National Series starts and I guess I can say I have mixed emotions about it all. On one hand I am happy and excited for all the girls to have a great series with all of the Sponsors on board giving away a huge amount of prizes and money to win. The racing will be epic this year with every girl stepping up wanting to win a championship and with the series only having 3 rounds it could be anyone’s year to win, there is no room for error.
On the other hand I won’t be lining up with all those girls to race, instead I will be on the side lines with Camille to get these girls the best series and respect they deserve. We have spent months trying to get a respectable, professional series again and this year definitely tops off our success we had last year. Now all we need is for the girls to show up and race. Let’s get FULL gates again ladies!

I haven’t been to any races yet this year, I have only been out to the track to teach a couple schools, and even that is hard to do. Being around bikes knowing that I can’t get on and rip around is pretty frustrating, so I can just imagine now how heartbreaking it’s going to be watching all these girls race, wishing I was out there. So if you see me bawling my eyes out at the track don’t mind me, I’m just having a moment. Haha noooo I would not do that. I am going to try and keep myself busy those days with the series.

One of my favourite parts about racing is meeting all the fans on race day, younger boys and girls who are not involved in the sport yet, to beginner, junior, pro, and vet riders all the way to grandparents who were just out to watch the sport. The amount of great comments we get about women’s racing is pretty awesome. There are a couple girls that stand out to me who I met last year. The first one is Evey Long; she came out with one of her friends to Kamloops to come watch. After our second moto she was at the podium, and without really knowing too much about the sport, she really got a good look at how much fun it could be and the rewards you can get out of it. She came back to the rig and asked about how she could get into racing and told me we were an inspiration to her. It was a good feeling to know that people are out there watching us, and we have a big influence on the younger generation, and women in general showing how women can be taken seriously in this sport.

The other girl I met was Melissa, she came out with her family to the last round in Edmonton, I met her on the Sunday pro day, they were excited to see a woman rider under a rig, and I remember them asking why there weren’t more girls on big teams. I said to them that women’s moto in Canada wasn’t doing so good the year before, and that I hoped that in the next years to come more sponsors will realize the affect women can have on this sport. I still keep in contact with these girls, and I am happy to say that Evey is in search for a bike and can’t wait to get out there to ride.
There are so many little things that go into making this sport great and the fans and fellow riders make it all worth it, hope everyone can make it out to the rounds to watch these girls rip it up. Make sure to stop by and say hello if you see any one of us walking around the pits, we will have a booth set up for Canadian Women’s Motocross on the Sunday pro day so please feel free to come by. 🙂

I just want to give a shout out to Sierra Roth who had a nasty crash on the weekend in Brooks, AB.
She just got out of surgery and here is what she had to say:
“Thanks to everyone for your concerns and support. After my brutal crash in Brooks I was transported to Calgary foothills hospital via ambulance. I was fortunate to go directly into the OR and had a successful surgery shortly after I arrived in Calgary. Doctors and nurses have been amazing here!! Thanks so much to them. I had a fractured vertebrae which was putting pressure on my spinal cord. Recovery could be weeks to months and it is still unknown the extent of possible permanent damage. I have no feeling below my waist right now but my upper body is strong. We will be in Calgary care for at least a week and then will consider a transfer to Edmonton. That’s all for now and thanks soooooo much for everyone’s support and encouragement, I am going to need it to bounce back from this one. Love you all !!! Xoxoxo Sierra :)”

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers, and if your around the area I’m sure she would love to see all of you.
