Wright out of the gate: “The preparation for the adventure.”

You may have heard the term that “life is just an adventure”. Well, in the sport of motocross this saying is even more punctual. It seems like the adventure never ends! Living the life of a motocross racer is definitely a dream for a lot of people out there and I am very fortunate that I can live this amazing life, including the adventures that go along with it. Like most of them, there are always a few hiccups and road blocks that you might have to overcome, but in the end when you do get to that final destination the small things that happen along the way seem just that much sweeter. Also, along this adventure, you get to learn a lot about yourself and a lot about the people around you. This has helped me overcome a lot through my adventure in the sport. Motocross is just one of those adventures that never stops coming up with challenges and decisions to make, and some times that might be a bit tough. I like to think of every race or everywhere I travel as a step of this lifelong adventure in the sport.

As most of you may know, I am getting ready to head down south to ride those new CRF motorcycles and to train for the upcoming season of the Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals. For me, this is next adventure. I will be leaving tomorrow to make the long drive down to California to start the off-season training in the Golden State. Down there I will be staying with my good friend Allan Brown and his wife Jen. I am very fortunate to have so many people supporting me and helping along this great adventure. If it weren’t for this amazing sport and the great people within the sport, I would never have had the opportunities I have had. I also wouldn’t have met the amazing people I have along the way. It’s because of this great adventure that I am on that I could meet and have friends from all over the world. I am forever grateful of what the sport has given me and what it has in store for me in the future.

As I get ready to leave for an extended period of time, there are a lot of things that have to get done and prepared in order for the trip to go smoothly. All of this starts with the amazing team at Honda Canada GDR Fox Racing that I have behind me. There is a lot of behind the scenes stuff that has to happen in order for me to be ready to go. That process all starts with the great people over at Honda Canada with getting us set up with amazing bikes, because without these bikes it is a little bit hard to get my job done. After getting these bikes, then it is up to our great team manager Derek Schuster to get us all set up with the parts, aftermarket stuff on the bike, oils, and accessories that we need. You name it, he has it for us! Then it’s up to the great guys at Fox to have me dialed in, looking fresh and protected so that when I hit the track I am confident in my gear! For that to get done I have to think of the things that I will need and put my order in to the great people at head office. The great people over at Marin bikes hooked me up with what I need for cross training and will make sure that I have all tools I need in the bike department, insuring that I am in the best shape when I hit the track for round one. I can’t thank the amazing people over at CTI Knee Braces enough for hooking me up with a custom knee brace for the ACL I damaged in the fall. Finally, I had to make the trip up to Gopher Dunes to pick up the last minute parts, tires and wheels that had come in. With these final objects, I am all set for the trip. Also I have a part to do in this as well; I have to make sure that my set up is ready with my truck and trailer, as well as all of the last minute things at home.

As all motocross racers and families know, there is always the fun times of loading the trailer and truck, and trying to make sure that you don’t forget anything. That’s always the most stressful part for me, because I feel like every time I go somewhere, there is always that one time that you second guess yourself about whether or not you loaded that one piece of gear or that one part or tool. Then when you get to where you want to go, normally it’s always in there and you stressed yourself out for no reason.

As I load my trailer with all my necessities, my bikes, parts and gear, I just happened to look at the weather where I will be and they are actually calling for some rain. Although here in Ontario we never really like rain, in Cali rain is always a good thing, it means that the riding will be amazing.
