First things first, go see the movie American Sniper; incredible movie about a truly humble hero!
On that note, I’ve had the incredible fortune to be part of the SEALFIT community, and am a proud graduate of the SEALFIT Foundation program. Training isn’t always about improving physically, we can work on improving our mental game as well.
Every so often I throw an FYF (not appropriate to say what it means) at my athletes. I challenge them with an incredibly hard workout in order to teach them how to attack big tasks and break them into smaller achievable goals.
Today I will provide you with a few examples, and then next week go over how to break them down and how to approach them mentally. This will give you a chance to try one or two of these workouts, and then try a different approach and see the improvements.
As with all workouts, make sure you go through the DWU http://media.wix.com/ugd/aa2b7b_7851c3a7f7f7413dbadaae8492aa0f26.pdf before starting.
Workout 1
1000 burpees for time
Workout 2
Burpee-broad jump for 1 mile
Record time
Workout 3
‘Murph’ – named after Michael Murphy, a hero who was featured in the movie Lone Survivor.
Run 1 mile
100 pull-ups
200 push-ups
300 air squats
Run 1 mile
This workout alone is brutal, but for the true warriors out there, try it wearing a 45 lbs weight vest.
You can partition the pull-ups / push-ups and squats, meaning that you could do, for example, 10 pull-ups. 20 push-ups, 30 squats for 10 sets.
So get out there and give one or two of these workouts a shot. If you have any questions, email me. Until next week, train hard, train smart and push yourself to new heights!!
