Jeremy Medaglia and Joshua Clark win at Deschambault

Jeremy Medaglia and Joshua Clark win at DeschambaultRound 7 of the Monster Energy Motocross Nationals, which was held in Deschambault, Quebec on Sunday, was won by Jeremy Medaglia and Joshua Clark.

A superlative riding Medaglia cleared the task in MX1 with 1-2 motos while Clark, equally on top of his game, recorded his first national win with 2-2 motos in MX2.

The first MX2 moto holeshot went to Tech-Care Suspension Honda’s James Roberts who was passed by Monster Energy/Parts Canada/Leading Edge Kawasaki’s Tyler Villopoto by the end of lap one.

James Roberts grabbed both MX2 holeshots at Deschambault and collected the $800 Royal Distributing Triple Crown Holeshot Award.

Series points leader Austin Politelli, who started around sixth, had worked his way into second before the halfway point of the moto to then pursue his Leading Edge teammate Villopoto.

Villopoto, who dealt with health issues the first half of the season, was in good form and by the end of the moto had built up an eight seconds lead.

Shortly after Politelli whipped past Roberts, Devil Lake MX Kawasaki’s Joshua Clark followed suit. Halfway through the moto, Clark inherited second place from Politelli, who was sidelined after a crash left him unable to restart his bike.

Devil Lake Racing’s Josh Clark rode consistently to take the overall win in the MX2 class and now sits 5 points back of the series leader with two rounds to go.

Honda-mounted Kyle Swanson took over third place and the podium finishers were determined at that time.
Behind them a great battle for fourth raged with Troy Lee Designs Honda’s Blake Savage taking that position at the checkered flag.

Duroy Racing KTM’s Michael Dasilva, producing his best ride of the season, sealed the top five. An 11th in the second moto would give Dasilva, racing in front of a home province crowd, seventh overall on the day.

Michigan native James Roberts nailed down the second moto holeshot as well with Clark, Ingalls, Rockstar Energy/OTSFF/Yamaha Motovan.com’s Shawn Maffenbeier, and Michael Dasilva in tow.

Tyler Villopoto took the first MX2 moto win and placed second overall.

First moto winner Villopoto started around 10th while his teammate Politelli came through in 12th. By mid moto Politelli had moved into sixth while Villopoto was riding in eighth. When the checkered flag flew, Villopoto crossed the finish line in seventh picking up second overall on the day, his best result of the season. Politelli followed in eighth, recording a tepid 15th overall.

Four laps into the moto an on-fire Clark took possession of the lead. One lap later Ingalls stuck a pass on Roberts for second place. Maffenbeier passed Roberts for third place on lap eight to set his sights on Clark and Ingalls who were banging handlebars for the lead.

On lap nine a relentless Ingalls took over the lead from Clark and he would write the win under his name. Clark, however, claimed the overall thanks to his solid 2-2 moto results. Ingalls, who had some problems in the first moto, finishing 14th, took home fifth overall on the day.

In the closing laps, Honda-mounted Blake Savage passed Roberts for fourth. Roberts, who finished sixth in moto one, took home sixth overall on the day. It was the American’s best finish since he joined the tour at Round 5.

Two holeshots and 1-2 motos gave Jeremy Medaglia his first ever overall win in the MX1 class.

MX101 Yamaha’s Jeremy Medaglia grabbed the first MX1 moto holeshot followed closely by Monster Energy/Parts Canada/Leading Edge Kawasaki’s Teddy Maier, Red Bull/Fox/Royal Distributing/KTM’s Dusty Klatt, and Rockstar Energy/OTSFF/Yamaha Motovan.com’s Bobby Kiniry.
Series leader Brett Metcalfe and Round 6 winner Cole Thompson both started outside the top-10. Six laps into the moto they were running fifth and sixth respectively.

Metcalfe and Thompson went on to pass Kiniry, who had occupied fourth place since the start of the moto, at the halfway point. Up front, Maier was hammering away at J. Medaglia who did everything in his power to keep Maier at bay.

Klatt, who was running a lonely third, succumbed to Metcalfe on lap 10. One lap later Thompson also stuck a pass on the multi-time champion and the top-five finishers were established.

A smooth riding J. Medaglia ran a flawless race that kept him two to three seconds ahead of Maier for most of the moto, but it was enough for the Ottawa native to grab his first MX1 win.

Meanwhile, Red Bull/Fox/Royal Distributing/KTM’s Tyler Medaglia was busy making up ground after a bad start saw him dead last after one lap. Although he began picking off rider after rider, he was unable to get any further than 17th place by the time the moto ended.

Fast starter Jeremy Medaglia went two for two holeshots when the MX1 class hit the track for the final moto of the day. Close behind him were Tyler Medaglia, Brett Metcalfe, Teddy Maier and Bobby Kiniry. Cole Thompson started a bit farther behind the lead group in seventh place.

By lap three, Maier took over second place from T. Medaglia while Metcalfe edged Medaglia from third place one lap later. Thompson, for his part, snuck into the top-five around the same time displacing Kiniry from fifth.

Series leader Brett Metcalfe, suffering from flu-like symptoms, went 3-1 for second overall.

By the halfway mark of the moto J. Medaglia had built a six seconds lead over Maier who was doing his best to keep his Leading Edge teammate Metcalfe behind him.
Thompson, on the gas, had stuck a pass on T. Medaglia for fourth. Not long after, a bobble by T. Medaglia presented Kiniry the perfect opportunity to retake fifth place.

On lap nine, Metcalfe, logging the fastest lap times, put a pass on Maier for second to then go after J. Medaglia. In the closing laps of the moto Metcalfe reduced Medaglia’s six seconds lead to next to nothing, passing him with three laps to go and take the win.

Meanwhile, T. Medaglia, having a serious off day, disappeared from the top-10 to finish the moto in a distant 15th place.

With two rounds left on the schedule, it looks like Metcalfe has the MX1 title sown up and could be crowned the new champ this Sunday. The volatile MX2 class, however, has suddenly become wide open and should go down to the wire at the final round in Walton.

Teddy Maier had a much better weekend than the previous two, scoring 2-3 motos for third overall.

On Saturday the CMRC Eastern Canadian Women’s Nationals wrapped up with another clean sweep by Sewer Rat Racing Yamaha’s Jacqueline Strong, which saw her nail down the championship with an impressive perfect score.

The number two and three finishers in the series, Trend Millwork Kawasaki’s Renee Riendeau and Duroy Racing KTM’s Eve Brodeur, claimed third and second respectively at the final round on the strength of 2-2 and 3-3 motos

Round 8 of the Monster Energy Motocross Nationals will be held on Sunday, August 4th at Riverglade MX Park in Moncton, NB.
